Eden Hazard insists he did not celebrate Chelsea’s Champions League win and wants Real Madrid to lift trophy next season

Eden Hazard insists he did not celebrate Chelsea’s Champions League win and is keen to see Real Madrid reclaim the trophy from his former club next season.

Thomas Tuchel’s side beat Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 in Porto on Saturday night to win football’s biggest club competition for the second time.

Chelsea knocked out Hazard’s Real Madrid in the semi-finals before winning a tight final and denying Manchester City their first Champions League trophy.

Hazard spent seven seasons at Stamford Bridge before joining Madrid in 2019 but says he did not celebrate the club’s triumph as his focus is purely on bringing trophies back to the Bernabeu.

‘Of course not, I’m a Real Madrid player so I am not happy,’ said Hazard, who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea. ‘I am just happy for a couple of friends in the team, but I hope next season it’s for Real Madrid.’

Germany international Kai Havertz scored the only goal in Porto as Chelsea lifted the Champions League for the first time since 2012.

After helping the Blues win the competition, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount said: ‘We are in a final and we won it. It’s such a special occasion.

Man City 0-1 Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel post match press conference

‘I can’t put it into words. It’s impossible. I’ve played in two [previous] finals for Chelsea and we lost them both. It’s all I’ve dreamt of, winning a trophy with Chelsea.

‘To go all the way in the Champions League, we played some tough teams. At this moment in time, we’re the best team in the world. You can’t take that away from us.’

Tuchel, who replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat in January, added: ‘To share it with everybody is incredible. We made it. Wow. I don’t know what to feel.

‘I was so grateful to arrive a second time [in the final]. I felt different. The [players] were determined to win this. We wanted to be a stone in their shoe.

‘We encouraged everybody to step up and step out, to be more brave and create dangerous counter-attacks. It was a tough physical game. We had to help each other out.’

Gianfranco Zola hails three Chelsea stars – including ‘complete player’ Mason Mount – after Champions League win

Gianfranco Zola has hailed three Chelsea players – including ‘complete player’ Mason Mount – after the Blues’ Champions League triumph.

A 1-0 victory over Manchester City in Porto gave Chelsea their second Champions League title win and Zola was ‘delighted’ for his former club.

‘It was amazing. I’m very pleased and delighted for this team, for the club, for the supporters,’ Zola told talkSPORT.

‘They won against arguably the best team around at the moment and they totally deserved it. They played good football, scored a good goal and then controlled the game well. It was a complete performance.’

Zola reserved special praise for Mount, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva following Chelsea’s victory at the Estadio do Dragao.

‘He’s become a complete player,’ Zola said of England international Mount. ‘He can attack, he can score, he can assist and defend.

‘This is necessary in modern football. Before, if you were able to score goals you could do that, but now if you want to be successful you have to work so hard. We saw that the other day.’

It was Havertz’s first-half goal that fired Chelsea to Champions League glory and Zola added: ‘Kai gave us a surprise the other day.

‘Nobody has ever doubted his qualities in terms of technique and intelligence. Maybe we thought he was not finding his right position on the pitch and wasn’t affecting the game as much.

‘He proved people wrong because he performed so well for the team. This position suits him and suits Chelsea very much.’

Silva’s first season at Chelsea ended abruptly after the Brazilian defender hobbled off with an injury in the first half against Man City.

Joyous scenes at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea supporters gather

It was a disappointing sight for Chelsea fans but Zola still praised the 36-year-old for his influence over the team this season.

‘I think one of the successes of this Chelsea team has been has been that he has been able to mix talented young players with more good experienced players,’ said Zola, who was Maurizio Sarri’s assistant at Chelsea.

‘I do believe this is a very good mix. You have to have both because they both push each other.

‘Thiago, I don’t know him personally, but I can see the way he behaves on the pitch and the way he plays, he must be very important for the young ones, in terms of being an example and ways to conduct yourself on the pitch.’

‘See you very soon’ – Jorginho drops hint over his Chelsea future after Champions League win

Jorginho has suggested he will be staying at Chelsea beyond the summer

Jorginho has suggested he will stay at Chelsea beyond the summer by insisting he wants to enjoy more ‘special moments’ at the club.

Italian midfielder Jorginho, who joined the Blues in 2018 when Maurizio Sarri was in charge, played every minute of Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the recent Champions League final.

Despite his obvious qualities, Jorginho has endured a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge and has been repeatedly linked with a move away from west London.

Just last month Jorginho was linked with moves to Barcelona, Juventus and former club Napoli, but it appears he is committed to Chelsea and hoping to continue to play a role in Thomas Tuchel’s project.

‘Another year together! This group is family, is team, is home!’ Jorginho posted on social media on Monday night.

‘We achieved something big and living it with all of you guys made it even more special! Thanks guys see you very soon for many other special moments together.’

Speaking ahead of the Champions League final, Jorginho revealed he had considered quitting football as a teenager.

He told Sky Italia: ‘I think about my past, especially when we get to these games. I think about everything I’ve gone through during my life and my career.

‘My hometown in Brazil, my family, everything. It’s like watching the movie of your life, you remember everything and it’s incredible.

‘I remember I wanted to quit when I was 17, but my mother and my dad didn’t let me do it. I am proud of what they did, I can only thank them.’

Jorginho made 43 appearances for Chelsea throughout the 2020-21 campaign, helping the club finish fourth in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup final as well as lifting the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak speaks out on future amid Manchester United transfer speculation

Manchester United transfer target looks on during Jan Oblak's La Liga clash with Real Valladolid

Jan Oblak has played down speculation he could be set for a transfer to Manchester United in the summer and insists he’s ‘happy’ at Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been a mainstay of Diego Simeone’s Atleti side since completing a move from Benfica back in 2014 and played a key role as the club won their first La Liga title in seven years this season.

However, there have been rumours that United are planning an audacious bid to secure Oblak’s signature as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his squad, despite the shot-stopper having two years remaining on his current deal in the Spanish capital.

It’s been claimed the Red Devils would even be prepared to use David de Gea as a makeweight in a potential deal for Oblak but it appears the Slovenia international is in no hurry to switch clubs.

‘I can’t see the future, neither myself nor the club nor anyone can,’ Oblak told Spanish publication Marca when asked for an update on his future.

‘It will depend on a lot of factors, such as if the club needs to sell any players or not.

‘I have nothing to say about my future, I have been at Atleti seven years and I have two years left on my contract.’

Oblak added: ‘I have played more than 300 games here and, while I enjoy having won La Liga, I’m not thinking about anything else.

‘I’m here, I’m happy. We’ll see what the future brings.’

Oblak has made 303 appearances across his seven-year stay with Atletico Madrid, helping the team win the Europa League, the Supercopa de Espana, the Super Cup in addition to their recent league triumph.

He was recently awarded the Ricardo Zamora trophy after ending the season with the lowest goals-to-games ratio (0.66) of any goalkeeper in the Spanish top flight.

‘He is welcome’ – Karim Benzema sends message to Kylian Mbappe over Real Madrid transfer

Karim Benzema says his France teammate Kylian Mbappe is ‘welcome’ at Real Madrid and has ‘all the qualities’ to play for the club.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar’s contract at the Ligue 1 club is due to expire in June 2022, with an agreement over an extension yet to be reached.

Mbappe has continued his rapid rise to stardom with an impressive 42 goals in 47 goals across all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign.

The 22-year-old has long been linked with moves to the likes of Madrid and Liverpool, and Benzema hopes to see the striker join him at the Bernabeu at some point in the future.

‘Mbappe at Real? We’ll see what happens, but in any case he is welcome in Madrid,’ Los Blancos striker Benzema told M6info.

‘He has all the qualities to be a Real Madrid player, one day I hope.’

‘He is still a young player, a phenomenon I have already been able to train alongside him, we play with one touch, he has movements, puts a lot of speed and has skill in the face of goal. He’s a very, very good player.’

The pair will link up for France at Euro 2020 in June, with Benzema back in the squad for the first time in six years.

When asked if France have the best team in the world, Benzema said: ‘If you see the names, the squad one can afford to say that, but then tell what happens on the pitch.

‘You have to play with confidence and respect the opposite. I think we are a great team.’

Martin Keown compares ‘immense’ Chelsea star N’Golo Kante to Arsenal legends Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva

Martin Keown heaped praise on ‘immense’ N’Golo Kante after his man-of-the-match display in the Champions League final and compared him to two of his former team-mates.

Kante put in an all-action display in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in Porto and Keown, the former Arsenal defender, feels he has established himself as one of the ‘greats’ of football history.

The French World Cup winner was also awarded the man of the match reward in each of the semi-final legs against Real Madrid and was instrumental to Chelsea winning a second Champions League title.

And Keown compared the midfielder to Arsenal legends Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva for the manner in which he makes the defence ‘feel safer’.

‘Right now, there is not a finer defensive midfielder in the world than the all-action Kante,’ Keown wrote in the Daily Mail. ‘Is he the best ever? That is hard to say. You could definitely make a case.

I was blessed to play behind Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva. Those players provide you with pure protection and you feel safer with them in front of you. Kante gives that to this Chelsea defence.

Maurizio Sarri tried playing him in a different position but Thomas Tuchel is playing him where he is at his best. Not only do we have to say Leicester found a gem in Kante but Chelsea got an absolute bargain when they spent £32 million on him in 2016.

‘The Blues had just finished 10th in the Premier League, remember, so were not even in Europe. Yet while other sides went to sleep, Chelsea signed a world beater. Every team in Europe would love to have this midfielder, with a twin engine, starting for them now.

‘Kante would have been warned to watch out for Ilkay Gundogan arriving late in the box. So he would have been astonished to see City’s top scorer in the distance, having been deployed as their deepest midfield player.

‘Now 30, Kante has won Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and World Cup medals.

‘He is, quite simply, one of the game’s greats.’

Bayer Leverkusen chief responds to Arsenal links to Edmond Tapsoba

Bayer Leverkusen plan on Edmond Tapsoba playing a ‘very important role’ for the club next season, according to their sporting director Simon Rolfes.

The 22-year-old defender has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer after impressing in Germany’s top flight.

Mikel Arteta is expected to overhaul his squad in the upcoming transfer window after the Gunners finished in eighth place and missed out on European football for the first time in a quarter of a century.

The Spanish boss will lose centre-back David Luiz when his contract expires at the end of June, while £27m signing William Saliba will return following the conclusion of his short-term loan at nice.

But when quizzed on Arsenal’s reported interest in Burkina Faso international Tapsoba, Leverkusen chief Rolfes insisted he is set to stay at the Bundesliga club.

‘Edmond should also play a very important role for us next season,’ Rolfes told BILD.

German publication BILD add that Leverkusen’s stance is unlikely to change unless a mega offer in excess of €70million (£60m) is tabled, which could shift things.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka has opened the door to joining Jose Mourinho at Roma this summer.

The Arsenal midfielder is said to have been made a priority signing by the ex-Spurs manager, and Xhaka admitted he was flattered by Mourinho’s interest.

‘Of course I read the rumours too,‘ Xhaka told Blick.

‘But now I’m one hundred per cent focused on the national team. That’s more important than Arsenal or rumours right now.

‘I still have a two-year contract in London. And at Arsenal they know what they got in me. When the time comes and we can, may or have to talk about a transfer, I’ll be here.”

‘Honestly: I didn’t hear what Mourinho said. But that makes you proud. Everyone knows Mourinho, knows what he has achieved. Mourinho knows how to win titles. You can now see what work I have done over the past few years.’

Sergio Aguero in Barcelona to have medical after Manchester City exit

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has been spotted in Barcelona, where the Argentine is set to undergo a medical ahead of signing a two-year deal with the Catalans.

The 32-year-old announced his departure from the Etihad earlier this year after the club failed to offer him a new deal.

Aguero spent ten years at City, becoming their top scorer during the process of a trophy-laden decade at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola did all but confirm Aguero’s move to the Camp Nou after City lifted the Premier League title last week but the Argentine has remained tight-lipped over his plans.

However, Aguero was spotted in Barcelona today with local outlets capturing the striker entering a car in the city centre.

Aguero is expected to sign a two-year deal and is one of a number of free transfers being eyed by the Catalans this summer.

Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to join from Liverpool, while Memphis Depay could arrive from Lyon after the expiry of his deal.

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is also set to move to the Camp Nou after he turned down several offers to remain at the Etihad.

Norwich confirm Emiliano Buendia will not be sold for less than £30m amid Arsenal transfer speculation

Arsenal transfer target Emiliano Buendia celebrates after Norwich's Championship win over Barnsley
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Emiliano Buendia (Picture: Getty)

Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber says a club-record transfer fee is required for Emiliano Buendia if he is to leave this summer amid speculation linking the midfielder with Arsenal.

Buendia, 24, was named the Championship Player of the Season after helping the Canaries seal an immediate return to the Premier League with 15 goals and 16 assists across an eye-catching individual campaign.

The Argentine’s outstanding performances since swapping Getafe for Norwich have caught the attention of Arsenal, who first considered a bid for his services in January before going on to complete a loan deal for Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard.

And the Gunners have reportedly revived their move for Buendia, with talks already underway over a possible big-money switch to the Emirates ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Emi Buendia looks on during Norwich's clash with Bournemouth
Buendia scored 15 goals as Norwich sealed promotion back to the Premier League (Picture: Getty)

But Webber insists Norwich are ‘really relaxed’ over star trio Buendia Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons, despite intense speculation they could be on their way out of Carrow Road.

‘If we do sell one, it’s going to be a club-record deal,’ he told BBC Sport.

‘It’s probably going to start with a number three in front of it and that will give us great opportunities to maybe make the whole better as well.

‘We’re really relaxed on that front.’

Norwich's most expensive departures

Ben Godfrey (£24.75m – Everton)

James Maddison (£22.5m – Leicester)

Jamal Lewis (£14.85m – Newcastle)

Robbie Brady (£13.6m – Burnley)

Nathan Redmond (£12.15m – Southampton)

Webber brushed off the suggestion that Norwich will have to spend big to give themselves a chance of survival in the English top flight next term.

‘You can spend £120m net and get relegated. That’s been proven more than once,’ he added.

‘We can’t go all in now just to try to stay up for one season because, if we get relegated, we’re in deep, deep trouble.

‘You can do that if you have a rich benefactor who says: “Spend £100m – if it goes wrong, then I can actually afford to write that off.” We don’t have that.

‘Our version of that would be to go into administration. We can’t take that risk.’

Buendia fuelled rumours of an impending move away from Norwich earlier this month as he underlined his ambitions to play at the ‘highest level’.

‘You always dream of being at the highest level and in the best teams in England, Spain and Europe,’ he told AS Argentina.

‘You dreams of challenging for titles, it is an ambition that I have.

‘It’s a source of pride that important clubs are interested in you as it means that you are doing things well and it provides motivation to continue working and one day achieve it.’

Donny van de Beek set for talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his Manchester United future

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will sit down with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to decide on his future at the club this summer.

The Dutchman joined United in a £35million deal from Ajax last summer and his arrival was met with much excitement given his performances for the Dutch giants over the last three years.

However, van de Beek made just four Premier League starts during his first campaign with the Red Devils and two of those came at the end of the season when Solskjaer was rotating with one eye on the Europa League final.

The midfielder was signed in anticipation of Paul Pogba’s departure but the Frenchman enjoyed an impressive campaign and could sign a new deal to stay at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek was left on the bench for the entire 120 minutes as United were beaten by Villarreal in the Europa League final.

The Telegraph claim the Dutchman’s patience is wearing thin at the Theatre of Dreams and he’ll speak to Solskjaer about his situation before the start of next season.

United told the midfielder that it would take time to integrate him into the squad last summer but van de Beek has been surprised by the lack of opportunities afford to him.

The Dutchman’s future could be complicated further by Solskjaer’s plans to sign a new central midfielder this summer.

United are keen on West Ham ace Declan Rice, though the Hammers want around £100m for the midfielder.

Elsewhere, United hope to sign Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, as well as a centre-back.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski speaks out on his future amid Chelsea transfer speculation

Chelsea transfer target Robert Lewandowski celebrates during Bayern Munich's Bundesliga clash with Freiburg

Robert Lewandowski has refused to rule out a move away from Bayern Munich this summer, admitting he’s ‘open minded’ about the future and keen to experience ‘new cultures’.

The 32-year-old had yet another phenomenal season in front of goal for Bayern, netting 41 times in 29 appearances to break Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old Bundesliga scoring record for a single campaign in the German top flight.

However, there has been speculation surrounding Lewandowski’s future with Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid all said to be weighing up big-money moves for the Poland sensation, despite the fact he still has two years remaining on his current deal at the Allianz Arena.

A recent report from Sky Sport Germany suggested Chelsea had already opened talks over a possible deal for Lewandowski as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen his Champions League-winning squad with the addition of a top-class centre-forward.

And while Bayern are insistent Lewandowski will be going nowhere during the close season, the striker did little to dampen speculation that he could be set to switch clubs during an interview with Canal+ on Sunday.

‘I remain open minded. I feel very good at Bayern, the city is superb, it’s a great club,’ he told the French TV channel.

‘I am always curious to learn a new language, a new culture.

But whether it will be in football or after my career, even I don’t know.’

Lewandowski broke Muller’s long-standing Bundesliga record in the last minute of Bayern’s final match against Augsburg and the forward even surprised himself with his incredible feat, especially as he was sidelined for most of April.

‘I am not obsessed with records. When I take on new challenges, I try to do what no one has ever done because it pushes me to move forward,’ the Poland international added.

‘For me if you do something you love, you can achieve goals you thought were impossible.

‘To be honest, I thought no player could come close to that record, especially since I didn’t play for several matches. I was injured for part of the season.

‘I don’t realise the magnitude of it.

‘I don’t really feel it and maybe that’s a good thing.’
