Donny van de Beek will seek Manchester United exit in January as first team exile continues

Donny van de Beek will look to find a new club in the January transfer window as his frustrations over being left out of the Manchester United first team grow.
The Dutchman was visibly furious on Wednesday night as he was left an unused substitute during the 2-1 Champions League victory over Villarreal at Old Trafford.
As the Red Devils pushed for a winner, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer understandably turned to Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard, but also chucked on Fred and Nemanja Matic while Van de Beek remained sat down.
United did pick up the win with a last minute Cristiano Ronaldo goal, but the Dutchman remains unhappy and it seems that he has reached breaking point.
He has started just two games this season, one in the Carabao Cup and the other in the Champions League, with both matches ending in defeat.
In the Premier League, the midfielder has played just five minutes from the substitute’s bench, remaining an unused sub in the other five league games.
The Daily Mail now report that he will actively look for a move away from the club in January, which is likely to be a loan switch.

The 24-year-old came close to leaving Old Trafford in the summer, with a loan move to Everton being discussed, but Solskjaer convinced him to stay and seemingly promised him more game time than last season.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five, Van de Beek said: ‘I speak with the manager and the club about it and they were clear they wanted me to stay here.
‘The manager was really positive about me, he said: “I need you and I want you to keep you here.”
‘It’s difficult because I haven’t played one minute in the league, but he said, “what I see every day in training, I see a different Donny now.” He was really positive about me.
‘I need to trust him, if he don’t need me I think he’ll let me go. I think he has plans for me, I just need to work hard and I hope one day I can show the people what I can.’
Solskjaer has clearly not held up his end of the bargain and Van de Beek will be hoping to be playing for a different manager in January.

Jadon Sancho has ’suffered’ because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Man Utd, says Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United summer signing Jadon Sancho has ‘suffered’ following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford.
Sancho joined the Red Devils from German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer for a reported £73m and was expected to slot in on the right of a three-pronged United attack.
However, a mixture of poor form and a lack of game time since Ronaldo arrived at the club last month has meant the England international has struggled to find any rhythm at his new club.
Murphy thinks that the signing of Ronaldo has had a negative impact on Sancho, but backs the 21-year-old winger to come good under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
‘He’s struggled a little bit but I’m not concerned, when you’ve got that amount of talent, I think it takes time to find your rhythm, find your place in the team,’ he told talkSPORT.
‘I think he’s suffered because of Ronaldo, because he’d have played more. If you remember the first game against Leeds, [Mason] Greenwood played as a centre-forward, but since Ronaldo has come, they’ve played Greenwood on the right and rightly so because I’m a big fan but I think he’s a centre forward.’

The former Premier League midfielder has also urged Solskjaer to give Sancho a run of matches in the team to allow him to build his confidence.
‘A great example is [Jack] Grealish at Manchester City, since he’s come in, he’s played him every game regardless of performance. If he gets left out then conversations start and it gets in his head,’ he added.
Sancho started United’s 2-1 win over Spanish club Villarreal In the Champions League on Wednesday, before being substituted in the 75th minute for the more defensively-minded Nemanja Matic.
The former Manchester City academy graduate will be hoping to keep hold of his place in the team when United host Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Alex Telles claims some credit for Cristiano Ronaldo’s winner for Man Utd against Villarreal

Alex Telles not only scored a stunning equaliser for Manchester United against Villarreal on Wednesday in the Champions League, but also claims his words of wisdom helped Cristiano Ronaldo net the dramatic late winner.
The left-back is getting a run in the first team thanks to injury to Luke Shaw and he made his mark with a spectacular volley to level things up at 1-1 against the Spanish side in the second half after Paco Alcacer opened the scoring.
The game looked set to end in a draw until Ronaldo popped up with the latest of winners for the Red Devils, creating a classic European night at Old Trafford, despite Villarreal missing a string of chances to cause a big upset.
Telles had been substituted by the time Ronaldo found the back of the net, but he says that some sage words of advice helped the Portuguese superstar stay cool at the crucial moment.
‘So, it was the first time I play with him,’ the Brazil international told TNT Sports, via The Express. ‘Off the pitch, we already have this closer relationship because we speak Portuguese.
‘Five minutes before he was a little upset that we didn’t get any balls to him. I said “it will arrive, it will arrive, stay concentrated because it will arrive”. And as soon as I went off, Ronaldo doesn’t need much, right?

‘We know his quality, we see it on a daily basis. So it only took one ball in the box and he gave us the victory. It’s a dream.’
It seems that communication was key for United in the win as Bruno Fernandes also says that he told Telles where to stand for his goal.
It was Fernandes who crossed a free-kick to Telles on the edge of the box for the full-back to volley home, although the former Sporting man insists he deserves no credit for it.
‘Alex was coming to me and he was telling me he will do the overlap over the ball and if there’s a chance pass it to me in the box,’ Fernandes told MUTV after the game.
‘But I said go to the edge of the box because they will drop and I will ping the ball over there and you can hit it first time or if you have time control it.
‘It’s all the quality of Alex, nothing to do with me, okay the ball was good and it went straight to Alex but Alex made a really good strike and an unbelievable goal.’

Bruno Fernandes confirms who was on penalties during Man Utd’s clash with Villarreal

Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he was Manchester United’s first-choice penalty kick taker during Wednesday’s last-gasp 2-1 Champions League win over Villarreal.
Fernandes missed a stoppage time spot-kick during United’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, with sections of the fanbase surprised that the 27-year-old was allowed to take it with Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch at the time.
The miss led to speculation that Fernandes could be stripped of penalty-taking duty by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite having scored 21 of his 23 penalties for the Red Devils.
However, the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder confirmed that he would have taken the spot-kick should they have been awarded one during the match against the Yellow Submarine and outlined how Solskjaer will decide who takes the penalties in the future.
‘I was on penalties [against Villarreal] but we didn’t get one,’ he told BT Sport.
‘The manager will decide before the game who takes it.’
United came from 1-0 down to beat the current Europa League champions thanks to goals from Alex Telles and a stoppage-time strike from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The visitors had a string of chances at Old Trafford and Manchester United were fortunate to escape with three points, but Fernandes insisted he always kept faith in a victory.
‘I always had the feeling we would win the game, also when they scored I feel we could come again and turn it around,’ he said.
‘After the goal of Alex [Telles], everyone feels the atmosphere was unbelievable. The push from the fans was incredible.’
United will be hoping to use the momentum given to them by Ronaldo’s late winner, when they host Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. But it remains to be seen who will take the penalties this weekend.

Danny Murphy names Chelsea’s Mason Mount as his favourite English player

Danny Murphy has picked Mason Mount as his favourite England player after describing the Chelsea midfielder as ‘close to perfect’ and someone who can ‘play anywhere.’
Mount has become a regular for both Thomas Tuchel’s side and the England national team in the last two years after an impressive season on loan Derby in the Championship under the tutelage of Blues icon Frank Lampard in 2018/19.
The 22-year-old academy graduate has missed Chelsea’s recent defeats against Manchester City and Juventus through injury, but is expected to return to the west London club’s squad when they host Southampton in the Premier league on Saturday.
Murphy, a former Premier League and England midfielder himself, believes Mount is almost the complete package and picks out the one area he could improve In his game.
‘I’m his biggest fan, he’s my favourite English player,’ Murphy said on talkSPORT.
‘The thing with Mount that makes him so good to watch is his game intelligence. He’s played left wing, as a 10, in a midfield two, midfield three. He’s played even right side, he can play anywhere.

‘Both aspects of his games are in check, he presses with intent, his turnover numbers are really good. He can track back to get in the right positions, [he knows] when to drop in, from an attacking point of view he makes great runs off the balls, but he’s also so good with the ball at his feet.
‘He’s always twisting and turning. For me the only aspect he can improve is assists and goals because of the ability he’s got. But his numbers will always be down because of his defensive duties too. He’s close to perfect.
‘You look at [Mohamed] Salah, his game is about goals and assists and he doesn’t defend. He’s not expected to. Where as Mount helps out in defence as well as attack.’
‘It doesn’t matter what opposition we’re playing against and whatever system, we play, Mount is in my England starting XI.’

Violent scenes as West Ham and Rapid Vienna fans clash at the London Stadium

There were nasty scenes in the stands at the London Stadium as West Ham and Rapid Vienna fans clashed during the Europa League clash on Thursday night.
West Ham took the lead through Declan Rice in the 28th minute and the goal sparked violence among supporters in a corner of the ground.
The Sun reports that a number of the Rapid Vienna fans tried to storm a section of the home fans after Rice’s goal, jumping barriers to do so.
Stewards and then police held off the attack from the away fans and order was restored, avoiding what could have been a much worse situation.
The attempted invasion of the home end was not completely out of the blue, with missiles being thrown between the two sets of fans.

These were mainly water bottles, but occassionally bigger objects including large water coolers being chucked.

On the pitch, West Ham picked up an impressive 2-0 win over the Austrians thanks to Rice and a late second from Said Benrahma.
After starting their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win at Dinamo Zagreb, the result in east London keeps up their perfect start to the campaign and leaves them top of Group H.

Jose Mourinho hails performance of former Man Utd star Chris Smalling during Roma’s Europa Conference League win

Jose Mourinho has singled out the performance of Chris Smalling after the former Manchester United star scored, and helped Roma keep a clean sheet during their 3-0 win over Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk in the Europa Conference League.
Goals from Stephan El Shaarawy, Smalling and ex-Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham gave the Giallorossi all three points in Ukraine, as they continued their unbeaten start to the group stage campaign, following a 5-1 opening day win over Bulgarian team CSKA Sofia.
Smalling missed the first four matches of the season after picking up an injury in training and has found it tough to break back into the starting XI since his return.
But the 31-year-old was given his chance to impress after the England international was selected ahead of Italian defender Gianluca Mancini for the Group C match and added a second goal for his side with a header from a corner just after an hour.

Mourinho, who managed the former Fulham defender at Old Trafford, hailed his performance in both boxes.
‘Since he recovered he has always been available. Today, with Mancini’s absence, he could help out the defence,’ the Portuguese manager told a post-match press conference.
‘He played well with a lot of communication beyond scoring a goal which is always a nice bonus.’
Meanwhile Abraham, who left Stamford Bridge to join the Italian giants In the summer, scored his fourth goal of the season against Zorya with a well-placed finish into the corner of the net in the 67th minute.
Roma play host to Empoli on Sunday, as they look to improve on their current position of fourth in the Serie A table.

Kalvin Phillips’ agent and Marcelo Bielsa comment on his future amid Man Utd speculation

Speculation is mounting that Manchester United are intending to make a move for Kalvin Phillips. but his agent and manager at Leeds United have played down any talk of a move.
The 25-year-old, who has only ever played for Leeds, has seen his reputation grow rapidly since the Yorkshire side arrived in the Premier League last year.
The midfielder has become a fixture in the England team under Gareth Southgate, winning Men’s Player of the Year for 2020-21 when the Three Lions made it all the way to the final of Euro 2020.
Unsurprisingly, Phillips has been linked with a move to a bigger club, with Manchester United touted as the most interested party, but his agent is talking up the possibility of a new contract at Elland Road.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Kevin Sharp said: ‘I’ve had positive discussions with Leeds throughout the summer on a new contract for Kalvin and talks are ongoing.
‘I can only see a positive outcome. Kalvin’s desire is to stay at Leeds and there is a real willingness from all sides to make it happen.’
Phillips’ current contract already runs until 2024, but that could be extended further and likely improved considerably.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has been typically less straightforward with his assessment, although made it clear that he would have no desire to let Phillips go.
The Argentine does admit that it would be rare for a player to reject a big move to stay at the club he grew up with, but hopes that what happens.
‘That’s a question Kalvin needs to answer,’ Bielsa said of the Phillips speculation. ‘Of course for us he’s a very valuable player. We have to adapt ourselves to how he feels belonging to Leeds.
‘I have seen in him the conduct I have very rarely seen in a player.
‘In how football is right now, for a player to decline a team above the level where he is at, due to the love of a club where he is at, is not frequent.
‘I have the certainty Kalvin is going to enjoy for the rest of his life decisions like the one he made. He will be loved for always in the place he was born and where he belongs.’

Rangers’ Glen Kamara booed by crowd of children at Sparta Prague after suffering racist abuse against Slavia Prague last season

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara was the subject of booing during the Europa League clash away to Sparta Prague on Thursday, after suffering racist abuse during a match with Slavia Prague earlier this year.
Slavia defender Ondrej Kudela was found guilty of found guilty of racial abuse and banned for 10 matches for the incident at Ibrox last season.
Sparta Prague have been punished for racism themselves, due to play the match against Rangers on Thursday night behind closed doors after some fans subjected Monaco player Aurelien Tchouameni to monkey chants in August.
UEFA relaxed their ruling and allowed a crowd of 10,000 children under-14 into the match.
However, this has not stopped the problem and Kamara was clearly booed during the match, until he was sent off for a very soft second yellow card on 74 minutes.
The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell reported that Kamara is ‘now being booed with every touch.’
BT Sport commentator, and former Rangers midfielder, Alex Rae commented: ‘There’s no two ways about it, he’s being targeted by these kids. It’s difficult to hear in this day and age, but this is the case. He’s clearly being targeted.’

Rangers players had taken the knee before the game, with Sparta Prague players standing in the centre circle ahead of the match which finished 1-0 in the home side’s favour.
The booing of Kamara will be a painful reminder of the hideous abuse he suffered from Kudela just a few months ago.
The Finn explained what Kudela said to him to ITV, saying: ‘[Kudela] came over and said “you’re a monkey, you’re a f*cking monkey and you know you are.” From there I reacted and said he’s racist, he’s racist.
‘From there I had a lot of emotions going through my mind; angry, upset, I felt humiliated. All my family, friends, fans, whoever is watching, I felt like a little boy.
‘I didn’t know how to feel to be honest, I was at a point where I was so angry I had tears in my eyes. I haven’t felt like that in God knows how long. It was a really weird feeling.
‘For that to happen, from a so-called fellow professional, it’s crazy. It’s something you don’t expect in the game.
‘Words can’t explain how I felt. Hopefully, I never have to feel that again. It was crazy really.’

Last minute Cristiano Ronaldo goal secures Manchester United win over Villarreal

A stoppage time Cristiano Ronaldo goal saw Manchester United pinch a 2-1 win over Villarreal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
It was a thrilling contest which saw a huge amount of chances at both ends and the Spanish side will not believe how they have come away with nothing after so many opportunities in the Group F contest.
Unai Emery’s side took the lead after 53 minutes through Paco Alcacer after a well-worked move allowed him to poke past David De Gea, who had an excellent match.
However, the lead last just seven minutes before Alex Telles scored his first goal for the Red Devils, and did it in some style as he volleyed home from just outside the penalty box after Bruno Fernandes found him with a cross from the right.
It looked like it would end as a draw, but Ronaldo saved the day, cleverly finishing after substitute Jesse Lingard poked the ball to him on the right hand side of the box.

The first half ended goalless but there could have been a few at both ends, but especially for the away side, who squandered some excellent opportunities.
Solskjaer’s aggressive starting XI seemed just to be opening up spaces for the visitors more than creating chances for his own side.
Paco Alcacer wasted a great opportunity just before half time when he found himself in a two-on-one position, while Arnaut Danjuma kept causing serious trouble for Diogo Dalot at right-back.
Former Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno also missed a fine chance to open the scoring, but goalkeeper David De Gea was certainly United’s best player in the first half.
It was the away side that scored first, but they had to wait until the second half when Alcacer poked home after 53 minutes and some impressive build-up.

The Manchester United midfield was bypassed incredibly easily and after some neat passing on the edge of the box it was Danjuma who squared for Alcacer to finish past David De Gea.
The Red Devils could have been badly rattled by this, after a difficult night already, but a superb finish from Telles levelled the match just seven minutes later.

The Brazil international scored his first goal for the club as Bruno Fernandes chipped a free-kick to him from the right flank, with the full-back lurking, unmarked on the edge of the box.

Telles hit a sweet volley back across the goalkeeper and into the far corner, showing off some textbook technique in the process.
It was an open game throughout and it continued to be after the equaliser with more chances for both sides, most notably for substitute Edinson Cavani to put United ahead.
The Uruguayan veteran got his head to a fantastic Diogo Dalot cross, but could only nod wide of an open goal after the delivery evaded the goalkeeper, with Cavani distracted by a defender’s missed header.
Boulaye Dia then had two great chances for the Spaniards, forcing two sharp saves from De Gea, who continued his impressive performance.
A draw look secured before Ronaldo won it for the Red Devils sending Old Trafford into raptures.
