Mikel Arteta told to sell £30m Arsenal star after ‘terrible’ performance vs Atletico Madrid
Jamie O’Hara has urged Arsenal to consider selling Martin Odegaard in the summer transfer window after his performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week.
Odegaard has struggled with injuries this season and has started just 19 games across the Premier League and the Champions League.
The 27-year-old was substituted just before the hour mark in the draw with Atletico Madrid, and there are concerns in Norway that the midfielder is still hampered by a knee problem which has forced him to miss a significant part of Arsenal’s campaign.
However, O’Hara has questioned whether Odegaard can remain Arsenal’s captain and believes Mikel Arteta may need to sign a new creative midfielder in the summer transfer window.
‘Last season he wasn’t great either,’ O’Hara told talkSPORT.
‘He’s been terrible this season, getting dragged in the Champions League semi-final when you’re the captain is never a good look.

‘I do believe that Arsenal maybe are growing away from Odegaard. Maybe they’ve got to look at a player who can come in and be that talisman.
‘When Eze came on tonight, he kept getting caught in possession. He’s done a couple of good things, but is he the world star in the number 10 role for Arsenal? I’m not sure.
‘But Odegaard needs to up his game. He needs to buck his ideas up because he will end up falling down a pecking order. I don’t think he can be the captain anymore.’
Meanwhile, Jason Cundy believes Declan Rice will become Arsenal’s next captain if Odegaard leave the club.
‘He’s never going to catch the eye in terms of doing step-overs and pinging one in top bins, running 30 yards. He ain’t that player. What he is, defensively, he’s a monster,’ Cundy said.
‘When he goes forward, he carries the team. He’s brilliant in control. I think he will be England’s next captain and I think it’ll be Arsenal’s next captain.’

I am sure Tottenham will lose the relegation fight with West Ham – but I am calm about it
‘Guess this’ll actually be a pretty big game for them. Probably one of the biggest games of their season?’
It was an hour into the match at Molineux last Saturday and this was the first time the Wolves fans sitting behind me had given their opponents a moment’s thought. They had bigger problems. After a record winless run at the start of the season they had finally been relegated that Monday. This was one of three remaining Premier League home fixtures before they’d return to the Championship, so they were quiet but had come out in numbers.
I was in the home end with my Wolves-supporting boyfriend. But as a Tottenham fan I was there covertly. And as the players lined up before kick-off, I had tears in my eyes. We had to win. Fail to beat the league’s worst side and, really, that would be it.
One of the biggest games of our season? This was the biggest game in our history. Being undercover for a match like this was a particular kind of torture. But the reason I need to tell you about it is that it gave me something valuable: a dramatic shift in perspective. Wolves know a lot about relegation.
Until last week, they’d been in the Premier League for eight straight seasons that included a European run. Last time that grand old club fell out of the top flight, they’d done the double drop to League One. Now they were off to the Championship again, feeling okay about it and hoping to enjoy watching their team win for a change.
I’m not trying to draw a comparison between Spurs and Wolves – this column will never be about the relative importance of football clubs. Everyone’s club is the biggest in the world, that’s the whole point. In any case, the situation Tottenham find themselves in is unprecedented. That’s largely down to the scale of the club’s financial resources. To be the ninth wealthiest club in the world, with the best stadium in England, banking hundreds of millions more annually than Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid, and to be in this state? That’s special.

For every other club in the pyramid, the Spurs rubbernecking is fun. It’s all anyone wants to talk to me about, and it’s pretty much all I’m thinking about.

This is not only a choice: I’m sitting in for the wonderful Danny Kelly on Spurs podcast The View From The Lane, broadcasting for 2-3 hours a week about Spurs and nothing else. But I can’t really help it. In Wolverhampton I took advantage of my necessary silence to focus my mind on willing the ball into the back of the net and then, afterwards, keeping it out. The 1-0 win reward for my (nearly) invisible celebration when Joao Palhinha scored.
Points aside, the main thing I gained was witnessing Wolves fans’ complete indifference to Spurs. To be among men who neither knew nor cared that Xavi Simons would be our 37th injury this season. They booed him! They were so angry he wouldn’t get up! They have nothing to play for! It was wild to be inside that alternate state of mind. I left the West Midlands as sure as I’ve ever been that Spurs will be relegated, but with a brand new feeling of calm.
I learned that whatever happens it will be fine. It may be that your world has ended, but no one else notices – what you give your focus to becomes your world. Supporting Spurs may feel below the level of choice, but still – I’m there because they’re mine. I feel grateful to care so much, and that’s not going to change.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk to appeal four-year ban for failed drugs test
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk will submit an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over his four-year ban for a failed drugs test.
The 25-year-old was charged with anti-doping rule violations by the Football Association in June last year after a sample taken in 2024 produced an adverse finding for the prohibited substance meldonium, which can increase respiratory capacity and stamina.
Mudryk said that the failed drugs test came as a ‘complete shock’ as he had never knowingly used a banned substance.
The Ukraine international, who Chelsea signed in an £89 million deal from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, has not played for Chelsea since November 2024.
CAS has confirmed it has received an appeal by Mudryk against the FA’s ruling, filed on February 25, 2026.
The statement from CAs added: ‘The parties are currently exchanging written submissions, and a hearing is yet to be scheduled.’

The FA has never disclosed details of the case or confirmed the length of Mudryk’s suspension.
Mudryk has been aiming to return to football and has been training individually with the help of a private coach at non-league side Uxbridge FC.
Speaking this week, Shakhtar Donetsk CEO, Serhii Palkin, backed Mudryk to return and revealed the Ukranian side stand to lose €30m (£26m) if the winger is sidelined.
‘We have €30 million [of] bonuses in his contract and if he is not playing, if Chelsea [are] not reaching results, we are losing €30m. That’s a big financial impact for us,’ Palkin said.
‘Therefore, everybody believes that this story will finish as soon as possible with positive results and Mudryk will return to playing. Otherwise, we will be in a position to lose €30m.
‘I know Mudryk as a player and a person. I believe he will return and he will start playing. I know this because I’ve never met this kind of guy before in my life. He’s a very hard worker. And he will prove he’s in a position to play and bring results to team.
‘But as I understand at this moment, everybody is waiting for the court’s decision, and we don’t have any information about when this will take place and when the final decision will be issued. Therefore, everybody is waiting for information.’

Why Matheus Cunha misses Man Utd vs Brentford, reveals Michael Carrick
Matheus Cunha is not in the Manchester United squad to face Brentford on Monday night, with Michael Carrick revealing he is suffering with a hip issue.
The Brazilian started and scored the only goal of the game as Manchester United beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in their last outing on April 18.
However, he was not only not in the starting XI as the Red Devils hosted the Bees on Monday, but he wasn’t even on the bench.
Manchester United’s interim manager, Michael Carrick, revealed that the Brazil international is struggling with a hip issue.
It is not anything that will keep him out for long, but was enough to see him miss Monday night’s action.
‘He had a bit of a sore hip flexor after the game against Chelsea,’ Carrick told Sky Sports.
‘He was looking quite promising during the week. We thought he’d be okay but he didn’t quite progress quick enough. It’s nothing too serious but unfortunately he misses out tonight.’

In Cunha’s absence, Carrick went for a front three of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Amad Diallo, with Bruno Fernandes behind.
Patrick Dorgu also returned to the squad, on the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Ahead of the match, Carrick told MUTV: ‘Patrick’s looking to get back closer to the group in a very small part, which is fantastic, because he’s worked so hard over a period of time now.
‘So it’ll be good to have him back in and around the group within the next week or so.’
Carrick was also full of praise for Kobbie Mainoo, who is in the starting XI again on Monday, saying: ‘He’s got an awful lot of experience in big occasions and big games at such a young age.
‘We just want to get him on the pitch and feeling that rhythm again. He’s done terrific.
‘Against Chelsea he was as good as he’s been. I’m conscious not to overload him and overhelp him. If anything he’s done a lot of it himself.’
