Juventus soften their demands for Matthijs de Ligt with Chelsea making progress in transfer talks

Chelsea are making good progress in their negotiations to sign Matthijs de Ligt with Juventus softening their demands for the defender.

The Blues are out to sign at least two defenders this summer following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger and are in talks to sign both de Ligt and Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

Juventus have already turned down Chelsea’s offer of €40m (£34.4m) plus Timo Werner for the Netherlands international.

The Dutchman is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and while Juventus had wanted his £102m clause to be met, The Telegraph claim the will of the player is forcing that valuation down.

Chelsea are also prepared to offer Werner or Christian Pulisic as part of the deal.

Juventus meanwhile have made it clear that they will not hold onto a player who is not 100 percent committed.

CEO Maurizio Arrivabene said: ‘It’s impossible to keep players when they want to leave the club – but all the three parties in the negotiations have to be satisfied.’

Talks for de Ligt are progressing well with the Blues also hopeful of signing their former youngster Ake his City teammate Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea are optimistic of signing the England international who has just one year left on his deal at the Etihad and have also agreed a fee with Leeds United for Raphinha.

Barcelona however are hopeful of hijacking the move for the Brazil international, with latest reports claiming the Spanish side now have the funds available to match Chelsea’s offer.

Arsenal hero Jack Wilshere delivers his verdict on Tottenham signing Richarlison

Watford v Everton - Premier League
Richarlison is on his way from Everton to Tottenham (Picture: Getty Images)

Jack Wilshere reckons Richarlison ‘could be really, really good’ but the soon-to-be Tottenham player would not get in the Arsenal starting XI.

Spurs have agreed a £60m package with Everton for the Brazilian forward and a deal is on the verge of taking him to north London.

It is something of a coup for Antonio Conte’s side, with Richarlison linked with the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea, while Manchester United have also been interested in the past.

The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals in 36 caps for Brazil and wanted by a host of top clubs, but Wilshere is yet to be fully convinced by him.

The former Gunners midfielder believes he could go on to great things at Tottenham under Conte, but right now Richarlison would not be starting under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

‘I think he improves the [Tottenham] squad, definitely. He gives them something different,’ Wilshere told talkSPORT.

‘I wouldn’t say I’m gutted [as an Arsenal fan]. He’s 25, so he’s not young. There comes a point where he’s going to have to turn all that potential into something. To be fair if anyone can do it it’s probably Antonio Conte.

‘So I wouldn’t say I was devastated as an Arsenal fan but I think he will be one to watch, he could be really, really good.

‘Yeah [I’d have him at Arsenal]. I don’t think he gets in the XI. He definitely would challenge for it and would be a good part of the squad. But I don’t think he gets in the XI.’

Brazil v Chile - FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifier

The Richarlison deal is set to be a £50m initial fee with £10m in add-ons, with the Brazilian set for a medical with the club on Thursday.

It has already been a busy summer in the transfer market as Spurs prepare to return to the Champions League.

Yves Bissouma has arrived from Brighton for £25m while Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster have been snapped up on free transfers.

Clement Lenglet form Barcelona and Djed Spence from Middlesbrough are also both expected to bolster the Spurs squad this summer as Conte looks to challenge for the title and in Europe.

Chelsea suffer major Raphinha blow with Barcelona ready to meet Leeds demands with £60m offer

Leeds United v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Raphinha favours a move to Barcelona (Picture: Getty)

Barcelona are ready to launch a bid worth up to £60million for Raphinha that could end Chelsea’s hopes of signing the Leeds United star.

Chelsea appeared to be on the brink of signing the Brazil international after agreeing a fee of £55m rising to £60m with Leeds on Monday.

Arsenal had been hopeful of signing the winger but Chelsea’s far superior offer left them leading the race for his signature.

While Raphinha is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, his first choice has been a move to Barcelona.

But with the Catalan giants under financial pressure, they have so far been unable to make a bid that meets Leeds’ demands.

Japan v Brazil - International Friendly

However, The Times now report Barcelona are now ready to launch an offer worth £51m up front with a further £9m to follow in add-ons.

Raphinha’s agent, former Chelsea midfielder Deco, met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Wednesday where the deal was discussed.

Barcelona are now hopeful of getting the deal done – with Raphinha’s desire to move to the Camo Nou a key factor.

Barcelona find themselves in a position where they can fund fund the move after agreeing a deal on Thursday to sell 10 per cent of their La Liga TV rights for the next 24 years – a move that will see them net an initial figure of £179m.

While Barcelona is Raphinha’s preferred destination, the report adds there is also interest from an unnamed European club who are competing in next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal saw a bid of £35m rejected by Leeds last week.

Erik ten Hag hopeful of making five Man Utd signings with club ready to offload nine as part of summer clear-out

Manchester United Players Return for Pre-Season

Erik ten Hag remains hopeful of making five new signings for Manchester United this summer – with as many as nine set to leave as part of a major clear-out.

United have agreed a deal to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord while they have also agreed a fee in principle with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong – ten Hag’s top target.

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is also on the manager’s wanted list along with his club teammate Antony. United have also offered Christian Eriksen a contract.

United have already bid farewell to Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani, who have left Old Trafford following the end of their contracts.

But Goal report there could be nine more exits before the summer transfer window closes.

Some will have the opportunity to impress the manager during pre-season with Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka hoping to make an instant impression.

United are ready to listen to offers for Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams – with the imminent arrival of Malacia further hampering the first-team prospects of the latter two.

Fulham meanwhile are in talks to sign Andreas Pereira while Dean Henderson is on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Newcastle United.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has also come under scrutiny in recent weeks but United insist the 37-year-old will not be going anywhere this summer.

United were back in training this week and will fly out for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia that will include friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa on 8 July.

Frenkie de Jong is prepared to join Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag has made the 25-year-old midfielder his top target ahead of his first season in charge with United locked in talks over a fee with Barcelona in recent weeks.

While Barcelona have been prepared to sell for the right price to finance their own summer spending, the biggest issue was thought to be convincing de Jong to leave the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman has described the Catalans as his ‘dream club’ with fears United’s failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League would be another major stumbling block.

Reports in Spain have claimed de Jong has told Barcelona and United that he has no intention of moving this summer.

Real Madrid v Ajax - UEFA Champions League

However, The Guardian claim that is not the case and report de Jong is ‘minded to sign for United’ and is ready to reunite with his former Ajax boss ten Hag in Manchester.

A an initial fee of £56.2m with add-ons that could take the price up to £73.3m has been agreed in principle with the focus now on agreeing personal terms with de Jong.

Elsewhere, United are thought to be on the brink of signing Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

The Netherlands international was on the brink of sealing a move to Lyon before United swooped in with their offer.

Malacia has already informed Lyon that he has picked the Premier League as his next destination.

Manchester United are prepared to let Alex Telles, Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez leave the club this summer once the signing of Tyrell Malacia is complete.

United are on the verge of completing a deal for the Feyenoord left-back after launching a late bid for the 22-year-old on Monday night.

Lyon have also agreed a fee with Feyenoord but the Netherlands international has informed the Ligue 1 side he wants to join Erik ten Hag’s side with talks over personal terms progressing well.

United are now expected to wrap up their first signing of the Ten Hag era in the coming days.

Malacia is expected to compete with Luke Shaw for a first-team role next season with The Times reporting Telles and Williams will be moved on as a result.

Telles joined United from Porto in 2020 for a reported fee of £15m, with the club ready to listen to offers for the 29-year-old.

Academy product Williams, 21, is also set to leave with United considering loan and permanent offers for the player who spent last season with Norwich City.

Malacia’s arrival could also see academy star Fernandez look elsewhere for first-team opportunities.

The former Real Madrid youngster will be given the chance to impress ten Hag on the upcoming pre-season tour but the Manchester Evening News report a loan could be on the cards following a new arrival at left-back.

Fernandez was named United’s Under-23 Player of the Year last term was included in the senior squad four times under Ralf Rangnick towards the end of the campaign.

The report adds there is already interest from Championship sides in the 19-year-old.

Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard agrees permanent move to Sunderland

FBL-WC-2022-EUR-QUALIFIER-SUI-NIR

Daniel Ballard has agreed a move to Championship side Sunderland, after a switch to Burnley fell through last week.

The 22-year-old has spent time on loan at Swindon Town and Blackpool before making 31 appearances in the Championship for Millwall last season.

The Northern Ireland international has never made a first team appearance for the Gunners and his stay at the club is close to an end as he prepares to move north.

The Athletic report that Ballard very nearly joined Burnley a week ago but terms could not be agreed despite significant talks taking place.

The likes of former club Blackpool and Sheffield United were thought to be interested in the defender, but it is newly-promoted Sunderland who have won the race for his signature.

Despite never making the cut for Arsenal, Ballard has proved himself on the international stage, already picking up 15 caps for Northern Ireland and scoring two goals.

Former Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley reckoned Ballard was good enough to play in the Arsenal defence last season, especially after the Gunners had made a disappointing start to the season.

‘If I were Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, I’d be recalling Daniel Ballard from his loan spell at Millwall and placing the young Northern Ireland international in my struggling Gunners team,’ he told the Belfast Telegraph in September last year.

‘I know Daniel isn’t Mikel’s type of defender — he probably doesn’t match his philosophy in how he wants the game to be played — but maybe he should be with the way Arsenal have started their season.

‘Daniel just keeps on getting better and better with every game he plays in, especially on the international scene.’

Chelsea stun Arsenal by agreeing £55milion fee with Leeds for Raphinha

Leeds United v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Raphinha is now on the brink of a move to Stamford Bridge (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea have agreed a £55million fee with Leeds United for Raphinha, stunning Arsenal in the race to sign the Brazilian winger.

The Gunners had been hopeful of adding the 26-year-old star to their attack ahead of the 2022-23 season, having wrapped up a deal to bring his countryman Gabriel Jesus to the Emirates last week.

Chelsea however have moved quickly to beat their London rivals to a key signing, according to The Telegraph.

The Blues have reached an agreement with Leeds over the fee and are now expected to agree personal terms.

Raphinha’s preference was thought to be a move to Stamford Bridge once it became apparent Barcelona would struggle to fund a move to the Camp Nou.

Japan v Brazil - International Friendly

Arsenal made a bid for the former Rennes star last week but their offer was rejected out of hand by Leeds, falling well short of their valuation.

Raphinha, who is represented by former Blues midfielder Deco, is now expected to join Raheem Sterling in Thomas Tuchel’s new-look attack.

Chelsea are already in talks to sign the England international from Manchester City in a deal that is likely to cost them around £50m.

The Londoners are also in talks to sign Nathan Ake from City – with their former defender said to be open to a return to west London.

Chelsea are in the market to sign at least two defenders this summer having lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Chelsea to battle Arsenal and Barcelona for the signing of Leeds star Raphinha

Leeds’ Raphinha is wanted by Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona (Photo: Reuters)

Chelsea will reportedly rival Arsenal for the signing of Raphinha, with the Leeds winger now considered a more realistic transfer target.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are in need of new forwards following Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan and new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is keen to make some marquee signings in his first summer in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Talks have already begun with Manchester City over a £50million move for Raheem Sterling but Chelsea want to sign more than one attacking player.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Everton’s Richarlison have also been heavily linked but deals for those two are proving tricky, with the former still interested in staying at the Nou Camp while Tottenham are leading the race for the latter.

As a result, The Telegraph now report that Chelsea are turning their attention to Raphinha who has been the subject of considerable interest from the Blues’ London rivals Arsenal.

Manchester City v Newcastle United - Premier League
Chelsea have also been linked to Man City’s Raheem Sterling (Photo: Getty)

Last week, the Gunners saw a bid for the Brazilian, believed to be under £40m, dismissed out of hand by Leeds who value their star player at around £65m, although Mikel Arteta’s side are likely to return with an improved offer.

But it is unclear whether Arsenal will have the funds to meet Leeds’ valuation, having already spent big on fellow Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus from City and Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, while a move for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is also in the pipeline.

Raphinha, who scored 11 and made three assists last season as Leeds narrowly avoided relegation, had hoped to leave Elland Road this summer for Barcelona, but the La Liga club’s financial issues have dashed those hopes.

It is not known if Chelsea are looking to sell any of their current forwards to make room for any new arrivals, as while Lukaku has gone they still have many attacking options including Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

As well as improving their attack, Chelsea are also keen to bolster their defensive options after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on a free.

Former player Nathan Ake, now of City, is of interest to Tuchel and Boehly, as is Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.

Marcus Rashford wants ‘clearly defined role on the left’ under Erik ten Hag for Manchester United this season

Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Premier League
Rashford was among those back for pre-season this week (Picture: Getty)

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford plans to make it clear to Erik ten Hag that he wants a clearly defined role on the left of his attack this season.

Rashford was among the United players to return to training this week as pre-season officially began under the new manager.

United ended a miserable 2021-22 season without silverware and in sixth place with a number of players enduring particularly underwhelming campaigns.

Rashford was among them, benched for key games with it later emerging the 24-year-old was considering his future at the club.

The forward is now said to be eager to impress the new manager while recent reports have suggested Rashford could be used as a striker during United’s pre-season campaign which includes friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Manchester United Players Return for Pre-Season
Ten Hag has been overseeing training this week (Picture: Getty)

But according to Goal, the England international will make it clear this season that he wants a ‘defined position on the left’.

Rashford has excelled in that role over the years but will face competition for Jadon Sancho, with the former Borussia Dortmund star showing his brightest glimpses last season out on the left.

United still hope to make more additions in attack with ten Hag eager to raid former side Ajax for right winger Antony.

The Dutch giants however are holding out for £70million  for the Brazil international.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has also come under scrutiny amid claims the 37-year-old is considering his options this summer.

United insist however that the Portugal international will not be sold.

Red Bull terminates junior driver’s contract after investigation into racial slur incident

Formula 2 Championship - Round 7:Jeddah - Practice & Qualifying
Juri Vips has had his Red Bull contract terminated (Photo: Getty)

Red Bull have terminated the contract of junior driver Juri Vips after the Formula 2 racer used a shocking racial slur last week.

During a live stream on Twitch, 21-year-old Vips was playing video game Call of Duty: Warzone alongside fellow Red Bull junior Liam Lawson, when he launched into a tirade about a fellow player, shouting: ‘F**k! B**h! N****r!’

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Red Bull announced that they would be suspending the Estonian driver from their program and launching an investigation, which has now resulted in his expulsion from the team.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Red Bull said: ‘Following its investigation into an online incident involving Juri Vips, Oracle Red Bull Racing has terminated Juri’s contract as its test & reserve driver.

‘The team do not condone any form of racism.’

Lewis Hamilton

Following his suspension, Vips had made a statement of his own, saying: ‘I want to unreservedly apologise for the language used during a live gaming stream earlier today,’

‘This language is entirely unacceptable and does not portray the values and principles I hold. I deeply regret my actions, and this is not the example I wish to set. I will co-operate with the investigation fully.’

Vips drove for the Hitech team in F2 and was tipped for a move to Formula 1 in the future.

This all comes on the same day that three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet was condemned for using the same racial slur while describing Sir Lewis Hamilton in an interview on Brazilian television.

‘Discriminatory or racist language is unacceptable in any form and has no part in society,’ an official statement from Formula 1 said.

‘Lewis is an incredible ambassador for our sport and deserves respect. His tireless efforts to increase diversity and inclusion are a lesson to many and something we are committed to at F1.’

Hamilton also responded to the incident, saying: ‘It’s more than language.

‘These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport. I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.’

Chelsea open talks with Manchester City over double move for Raheem Sterling and Nathan Ake

Chelsea in talks to sign both Ake and Sterling (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea have opened talks with Manchester City over a move for both Raheem Sterling and Nathan Ake.

The Blues have made a move for Sterling a top priority this summer with Thomas Tuchel eager for the club to sign the England international.

The German boss wants to add more firepower to his side this summer but defence is also an area of concern following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have now turned to their former defender Ake as part of their summer rebuild.

Ake made his Chelsea debut back in 2012 and made 17 senior appearances for the club. In 2017, he joined Bournemouth in a £20million deal having impressed on loan the previous season.

Chelsea v Watford - Premier League

Following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship in 2020, he joined City in a deal worth £40million.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly contacted City on Monday to discuss their valuation of both Sterling and Ake with the Blues keen to sign both players.

Tuchel previously tried to sign Ake while he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund with the 27-year-old open to the idea of returning to London.

Chelsea have enquired into Matthijs de Ligt’s availability but Juventus are holding out for at least £60m – and also want Timo Werner as part of the deal.

Ake has won two Premier League titles and a League Cup in his two years in Manchester but started just 10 league matches last season, with a further eight starts coming in cup competitions.

Thomas Tuchel has already spoken to Raheem Sterling about his role in his Chelsea side as the Blues prepare to make their opening bid for the England international.

The Chelsea manager has identified Sterling as a key target this summer with new owner Todd Boehly ready to back his manager in the transfer market.

Sterling has just one year left on his contract at Manchester City and has been considering his options since the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Guardian report that a bid between £50million and £60million will be enough to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge.

While there have been positive talks between Tuchel and Sterling, personal terms have not been agreed at this stage.

Sterling joined City from Liverpool in a £49m deal in 2015 and has scored 131 goals in 339 games for the Manchester club.

While Tuchel is eager to reshape Chelsea’s attack with Romelu Lukaku poised to return to Inter Milan, reinforcements at the back are desperately needed following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea are keen to sign Juventus star Matthijs De Ligt with an offer of €40m (£34.4m) plus Timo Werner already rejected by the Serie A giants.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Juventus have told Chelsea to pay €70m (£60.3m) and include Werner as part of their deal for De Ligt.

Arsenal schedule more transfer talks with Raphinha’s agent this week after sealing Gabriel Jesus deal

Leicester City v Leeds United - Premier League
Mikel Arteta wants Raphinha as his next signing (Picture: Getty)

Arsenal will hold another round of talks with Raphinha’s representatives this week as they shift focus to the Leeds United star after wrapping up a deal for Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners have reportedly completed the signing of Jesus having agreed personal terms with the forward, having also agreed a £45million fee with Manchester City last week.

They will now quickly turn to his countryman Raphinha, with Mikel Arteta desperate to add him to his attacking options ahead of the new season.

Leeds value the winger at £65million but Raphinha’s representatives believes a bid of around £50million will convince Leeds to cash in.

Goal Brasil report further talks with Arsenal will take place this week with Tottenham and Chelsea still to open negotiations.

Manchester City v Liverpool - Premier League
Jesus is set to join Arsenal this week (Picture: Getty)

Arsenal submitted a formal offer for Raphinha earlier this month but that bid was ‘rejected out of hand’ by Leeds as it fell well short of their valuation.

Barcelona is thought the be the 26-year-old’s preferred destination but the Catalan giants are likely to struggle to meet Leeds’ valuation.

If he is to remain in the Premier League, Raphinha is thought to prefer a move to Chelsea.

Arsenal have already demonstrated their ambition in the transfer market with their deal to bring Jesus to the Emirates, having also signed attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto for £34m.

The club are also in pursuit of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

Raphinha was Leeds’ star performer last season as his 11 goals played a key part in the club being able to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The winger would have been available for £30m this summer if Leeds dropped down to the Championship.

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez linked to River Plate after leaving Atletico Madrid

Former Liverpool star Luis Suarez is reportedly set to sign for Argentinian club River Plate to replace Manchester City bound striker Julian Alvarez.

Suarez is set to leave Atletico Madrid on 1st July when his contract with the La Liga side expires and according to Mundo Deportivo, River Plate are very keen to snap up the 35-year-old.

‘[Suarez] is an elite player, who is currently recovering from a knee injury,’ the club’s manager Marcelo Gallardo said on Sunday.

‘We made the attempt, he has the will, enthusiasm, it’s good. If he hadn’t shown enthusiasm, we wouldn’t be here waiting.

‘It will be a decision and when it is possible, we will see if it is feasible. You don’t have to lie to people or generate a lot of enthusiasm.’

However, other reports suggest that while an offer has been made Suarez is yet to come to a decision on his future and will take his time before choosing what to do next.

River Plate are in the market for a new striker with Alvarez set to link up with City next month.

The 22-year-old signed for Pep Guardiola’s side back in January before returning on loan to his boyhood club, and his form at River Plate will be hard to replicate having scored 53 goals in 119 games for the club since 2018.

The Argentinian international will be part of the Citizen’s new-look forward line, following the signing of Erling Haaland and the departure of Gabriel Jesus and potentially Raheem Sterling who continues to be linked to Chelsea

Suarez is regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation having had prolific and trophy-laden spells at Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico, scoring a total of 452 goals in 730 games across his entire club career.

The Uruguay has also been linked with moves to Aston Villa, Atalanta and Inter Miami.

Malcolm Ebiowei speaks out after rejecting Manchester United to join Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Malcolm Ebiowei, with the winger turning down Manchester United in order to join the Eagles.

Palace have agreed terms with the 18-year-old who will join up with his new side on 1 July when his contract with Derby County expires.

Ebiowei enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under United legend Wayne Rooney at Pride Park last season, making 16 appearances for the senior side.

United were eager to bring him to Old Trafford this summer but Palace have won the race for his signature.

And the youngster has passed on his thanks to Derby ahead of his move to south east London and is eager to make an instant impact at Palace next season.

‘I’d like to thank everyone at Derby County for their incredible support over the last year or so, and for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do on the field, and I’d also like to thank the fans for their encouragement especially given the circumstances of last season,’ Ebiowei told Palace’s website.

‘As everyone is aware the situation is very uncertain at Derby, so it was important for me to secure my long-term future.”

He added: ‘I’m incredibly excited about the prospect of joining Palace, as they have an incredible squad and huge potential. I very much hope to contribute positively to the team this season.’

Palace chairman Steve Parish meanwhile has hailed the signing of the ‘highly coveted’ Ebiowei and is confident the club can provide him with the platform to thrive.

‘I’m delighted that Malcolm has chosen Crystal Palace as the best place to continue his development, following his impressive breakthrough into senior football in recent months,’ Parish said.

‘He is a highly coveted young player, and we very much expect to provide a platform for him to flourish at the highest level.’

Former Manchester United players Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria close to joining Juventus

Juventus are reportedly very close to signing two Manchester United record signings in the form of Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria.

Pogba’s return to Turin has long been expected, even before the 29-year-old was confirmed to be leaving United in the summer after his second spell with the club.

But Di Maria’s future was unclear, as while Juventus had made contact with the 34-year-old a while ago, the Argentinian has remained quiet over what he would do upon the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A giants have now fully agreed a contract with Pogba worth around €8million a season plus add-ons and will announce the signing imminently.

He has also said that Juventus are still waiting on the ‘final green light’ for Di Maria with the club discussing final details with the player’s camp.

Manchester United v Arsenal - FA Cup Quarter Final

As previously mentioned, Di Maria joined United for a then-club and British record deal of £60m in 2014, having previously established himself as one of the best wingers/attacking midfielders in the world at Real Madrid.

But after a bright start, his time in Manchester soon turned into a nightmare, on and off the pitch, and he was sold to PSG the following season where he would rediscover his form.

Meanwhile, Pogba came through United’s academy but left Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012 as he wanted more first-team football, eventually winning four league titles in Italy.

In 2016 he made a sensational return to United for a then-world record fee of £89m, which still stands as the most the expensive transfer in the Red Devils’ history and, like Di Maria, things started well with the Frenchman winning the EFL Cup and Europa League in his first season back.

It was mostly downhill from there however, with injuries, poor form, bad management and off-pitch issues preventing the World Cup winner from performing to his best.

Juventus have become renowned in recent years for acquiring world-class talents on free transfers, having previously picked up the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Emre Can, Dani Alves and Sami Khedira for nothing.

Arsenal agree personal terms with Gabriel Jesus with Brazil star set to join in £45million deal

Manchester City v Liverpool - Premier League
Jesus to become Arsenal’s latest summer signing (Picture: Getty)

Gabriel Jesus has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and is now set to join the Gunners in a £45million deal.

Arsenal agreed a fee with Manchester City on Friday and have now agreed a contract until 2027 with the Brazil international, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Real Madrid have also expressed interest in signing Jesus but the 25-year-old is now poised to become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer following goalkeeper Matt Turner, forward Marquinhos and midfielder Fabio Vieira, who completed a £34m move from Porto last week.

Jesus is expected to become Arsenal’s first-choice striker next season following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this summer, with Eddie Nketiah also in the equation.

Jesus has scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for City and has won four Premier League titles since arriving in England five years ago.

Mikel Arteta worked with the player while he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Man City and is said to have been a key factor in Jesus’ decision to head to the capital.

Arsenal are also hoping to wrap up a deal to sign his countryman Raphinha from Leeds United.

The north London side have also held interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans since the start of the year.

In recent weeks however the Gunners have cooled that interest, instead focusing on getting a deal for Jesus over the line.

Cristiano Ronaldo responds to David Beckham’s offer to join Inter Miami this summer

Cristiano Ronaldo is not interested in joining Inter Miami and has snubbed a move to David Beckham’s MLS outfit.

Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford has come under fresh scrutiny with the 37-year-old said to have serious concerns over United’s progress in the transfer marker this summer.

The striker is said to have already confided to members of his close circle that he could leave in the coming months with his agent Jorge Mendes reportedly meeting with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly where a possible move to Stamford Bridge was discussed.

A return to Sporting CP could also be on the table with the Portuguese giants eager to offer him a return to the club where he made his senior debut at 16.

According to The Daily Star, Beckham has ‘explored the chances’ of his MLS side signing Ronaldo this summer.

But the report adds Ronaldo has snubbed the offer with United also adamant he is not for sale this summer.

Ronaldo re-joined United last summer and finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 24 goals.

While he said to have concerns over the club’s ambition in the summer having also failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, United remain adamant he will remain at Old Trafford.

A senior club source told the Manchester Evening News: ‘Cristiano is not for sale. We want and fully expect him to be with us next season.’

Ronaldo insisted last month that he was ‘happy’ at Manchester United and excited to work under new boss Erik ten Hag.

‘I was and still am very happy to be here, and what I have to say to the fans is they are amazing,’ Ronaldo said.

‘Even when we lost games, they always support us, they always are with us. The supporters are always in my heart and it’s the people that we all should respect because they are always on our side.

‘For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong. As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.

‘What I know about him [Ten Hag] is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he’s an experienced coach. But we need to give him time.

‘Things need to change the way he wants. I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best.

‘We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies.’

Brazil legend Rivaldo gives advice to Ajax winger Antony as Manchester United consider £60m transfer

Brazil legend Rivaldo has suggested that Antony should leave Ajax this summer to join Manchester United and says he is ‘confident’ his compatriot would thrive at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bring his former Ajax player to Manchester, with United considering a £60m move for the winger.

Antony was a key player in the Ajax side that won the Dutch title last season under Ten Hag and is said to be open to a reunion with the 52-year-old manager at United.

‘Another player that is heavily under the Premier League’s radar is Ajax’s Antony, who enjoyed a fantastic 2021-22 season and I’m sure he attracted the attention of bigger clubs,’ Rivaldo told Betfair.

‘At the moment, Manchester United – who have his former manager Erik ten Hag – seems to be the closest club to signing him and I’m confident we’ll all enjoy watching him play at Old Trafford.

‘Just like [Leeds United winger] Raphinha, he might benefit from playing at a bigger club to get closer to being a regular at the World Cup, though I also think his place in the squad is safe since Tite has been calling him up lately and has confidence in his qualities.’

On Friday, Ten Hag’s replacement at Ajax – Alfred Schreuder – took a swipe at Manchester United’s manager for trying to sign his players.

Rivaldo believes his compatriot could thrive at Old Trafford

He said: ‘Erik knows that he should not buy players from Ajax. I’m kidding. You never know in football.

‘But it is not important to me to talk about Erik or United. We have to talk about Ajax and we know that we are a very big and strong club.’

Ajax boss Schreuder also insisted that he is desperate for Antony to remain at the club despite the interest from Premier League giants United.

Schreuder added: ‘Clearly we want to keep that boy. He has a contract until 2025.

‘But I’m not about that. I’m about the line-up. And I really want to work with him, he knows that and the club knows that too.’

Meanwhile, Manchester United are making progress on a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, with reports suggesting they could complete the signing as soon as next week.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly eyes Cristiano Ronaldo transfer after meeting Manchester United striker’s agent

Todd Boehly met Cristiano Ronaldo's agent last week

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly held a meeting with Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent last week where a stunning move to Stamford Bridge was discussed.

The Athletic say Boehly, who bought Premier League club Chelsea from Roman Abramovich last month, met super agent Jorge Mendes in Portugal.

It is claimed Ronaldo’s situation at Old Trafford and the possibility of the Portugal legend making a move to west London were among the topics discussed as Boehly looks for Romelu Lukaku’s replacement.

Italian club Inter Milan have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea’s £97.5m flop on a season-long loan, with the Belgian enduring an underwhelming spell since returning to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have expressed interest in Robert Lewandoswki, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Richarlison as they look to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s attacking options ahead of Lukaku’s departure.

But five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo could emerge as another target after Boehly’s meeting with Mendes.

Ronaldo, 37, has 12 months remaining on the two-year deal he signed to rejoin Manchester United last summer. He scored 24 goals in 38 appearances for the Red Devils last season.

Despite his success at United, Ronaldo was said to be considering his future at Old Trafford towards the end of last season, with United finishing just sixth in the Premier League and missing out on the Champions League.

Recent reports claim Ronaldo is ‘concerned’ by Manchester United’s subdued start to the summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag yet to bolster his squad with any signings while his rivals have completed several deals.

But United intend to keep hold of Ronaldo for at least one more season and the veteran has said he is happy to stay and excited to work under Ten Hag.

‘I was and still am very happy to be here,’ he said recently.

‘I know Ten Hag did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants.

‘I hope we have success. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited. Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies.

‘I believe that Manchester [United] will be where they belong. Sometimes it takes time but I still believe.’

Chelsea set asking price for Barcelona to sign Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso

Barcelona still expect to sign the Chelsea duo

Chelsea have set their asking price for Barcelona to sign Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso this summer.

Barcelona have expressed interest in signing Spanish full-backs Azpilicueta and Alonso, having already agreed a deal for former Blues defender Andreas Christensen.

Spanish outlet Sport say both Azpilicueta and Alonso have agreed personal terms with Barcelona, who are optimistic of completing the double transfer raid next week.

The La Liga giants still need to table suitable offers to Chelsea, however, with reports in Spain saying they want €13m for each player, meaning the total cost will be just over £22m.

Chelsea are ready to sanction Alonso’s exit but manager Thomas Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly want Stamford Bridge hero Azpilicueta to stay.

While Azpilicueta is a firm fans’ favourite at Chelsea, he is keen to join Barcelona and could hand in a transfer request to force the deal through.

Azpilicueta has made 476 appearances for Chelsea and won every trophy available to him since joining from Marseille in 2012.

Alonso has also picked up a number of trophies in west London, winning the Premier League under Antonio Conte and the Champions League under Tuchel.

At the end of last season, Tuchel admitted Azpilicueta is torn over a possible move to Barcelona and feels he may have reached the ‘end of his cycle’ at Chelsea.

‘We had a lot of these talks because very genuinely it felt like he won everything after the Club World Cup, then suddenly given his personal situation I can understand these thoughts that maybe a cycle is at its end.

‘Then it is a change of ownership and he played only under this owner in this structure so it maybe increased even his second thoughts about his situation. But then his extension kicked in at the same time.

Chelsea are ready to offload Marcos Alonso

‘He loves the club, he loves the challenge, he loves to be here and he is our captain. We are still in a dialogue and at some point we are also selfish. We are not responsible to solve any other club’s problems or to fulfil any other club’s wishes.

‘Given the fact we lose key defenders already [Rudiger and Christensen], it is not the ideal scenario to think about losing Azpi even if I can understand his personal point of view.

‘At some point, if you are a legend – which he is – you deserve maybe also from me and the club a second look at it, if there is maybe an exception from the rule and we are still in this process.

‘If he cannot get rid of this feeling, if we have to talk about it openly, seriously and respectfully because he deserves it – we find out if he can give all that makes him special.

‘This is what we have to find out. That does not mean we find it out tomorrow or today, we still have time because we are also in the privileged position where we have a contract. We have to see.

‘I would hope strongly [that he stays]. He knows this. We are still in the talks to find out the idea.’
