Paul Ince has urged Manchester United to make a summer bid for Saul Niguez as he feels the midfielder has the potential to bring the club closer to Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.
Saul has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a number of years and Solskjaer has reportedly identified the 25-year-old Atletico Madrid star as the ideal partner for Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.
It’s understood Saul would be United’s primary target if Paul Pogba leaves this summer but the Spaniard won’t won’t come cheap considering Atleti have no intention of doing business for anything less than his current €150million (£130m) release clause.

However, Ince believes the Red Devils have no option but to spend big in the summer transfer window – despite the current uncertainty amid the coronavirus crisis – and has singled out Saul as the kind of player his former club should be chasing.
‘What United fans want is exciting players and heroes in their team. There hasn’t been enough of those in recent years at United,’ the ex-United and England midfielder told The Daily Star.
‘You look at Manchester City. They’ve got Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva – at least three legends. It’s the same now with Liverpool. United don’t have that at the moment.
‘I’ve watched Niguez for the last two or three years and I really like him. He’s got a lovely build and can score some special goals.
‘There’s a culture about him and he’s still young with plenty of potential. The thing is, he won’t be cheap – that’s for sure.
‘And, if you look to get him in, you have to think about what happens to Paul Pogba.’
Another player heavily linked with United has been Atleti youngster Joao Felix who has struggled to live up to expectations following his £113m move from Benfica last summer.
But according to Ince, Felix is not the answer as Solskjaer needs players more likely to hit the ground running in a United shirt.
‘There’s also talk about Felix, but he struggled in Spain – and there’s still a ferocity to the Premier League.
‘You’ve got to think about if they can come in and play straight away.’
