Emile Smith Rowe has described Arsenal’s comprehensive 3-1 victory over north London rivals Tottenham as ‘the best day of my life’ and praised Mikel Arteta for allowing him to play with freedom.

Smith Rowe got Arsenal off to a flying start against their biggest rivals when he calmly slotted home a cut back from fellow Englishman Bukayo Saka past the motionless Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.

Further first half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Saka gave the Gunners bragging rights in north London as Spurs, who scored a late consolation through Son Heung-min, make it three successive Premier League defeats, conceding three goals in each of them.

Smith Rowe, who came through the academy at Arsenal, was delighted with the victory and his own personal performance.

‘It’s the best day of my life, I’ve always dreamt of scoring for Arsenal vs Spurs, it’s a dream come true,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘I’ve been working a lot on it in training, I’m really happy with the win.’

The 21-year-old Englishman also praised the role that his manager Arteta has had in his development, adding that the Spaniard’s trust in him and other players allows them to flourish at the Emirates.

‘I feel like he [Arteta] just tells us to keep calm, it gives us so much confidence,’ he added.

Aubameyang also hailed the role of Arsenal’s young players like Smith Rowe and Saka, while admitting that there is more to come from them.

‘Arsenal can be proud of these boys and my kids will go to Hale End and they will end up like him [Emile],’ he said.

‘When you have boys like this, they listen and learn, the most important is that they feel free to play, that’s why they are doing amazing.’
