Gary Neville believes his former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney would ‘jump at the chance’ to manage Everton.
The Toffees are searching for a new manager following the sacking of Rafa Benitez, and Derby boss Rooney is one of the names to have been linked with the vacant position.
The ex-Everton striker has admitted he is ‘flattered’ by the speculation, but remains fully focused on his job at Pride Park.

Although Neville is unsure whether moving to Everton would be the correct move for Rooney at this moment in time, he thinks he would be extremely keen on the role.
‘He wouldn’t ring me up to ask for advice for that because I think he’d jump at the chance, obviously,’ the United legend told Sky Sports’ The Gary Neville Podcast.
‘Wayne Rooney being asked to be Everton manager, growing up as a fan [and] a kid there, going back at the end of his career, I don’t think it’d take five minutes for him to go back.
‘Whether that’ll be right for him now or not, whether it’d work or not, I don’t know.’
‘He’d have to come into the Premier League and do what Steven Gerrard is doing now [at Aston Villa],’ Neville addd.
‘He’d have the passion, he’s obviously got a grounding at Derby and he’s working in difficult circumstances, so he’s getting a good experience.
‘But he’d jump at the chance, of course.
‘I don’t know what they want, or who they want, or how they’re going to play it at this moment in time the Everton board because you can’t see a plan.’
