Liverpool fan favourite Andy Robertson grabbed the opportunity to reach out to his Twitter followers as football takes an extended break amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis which has wreaked havoc across the professional game.

Robertson, 26, will have hoped to have had his hands on the Premier League trophy by now but the devastating global pandemic, which has affected people from all walks of life, has led to all English football being suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

The Merseyside giants have a 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and are agonisingly close to ending 30 years of hurt, with just two wins between them and the title.

Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool full-back Robertson appeared in good spirits as he held a Q&A session with his fans on Thursday afternoon which covered a range of subjects from his idols while growing up – Henrik Larsson, Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard – to whether he prefers deep-fried Mars bars or Irn-Bru (he said the latter!).

Twitter user @SamuelLFC brought up a now famous photograph showing Robertson up against Virgil van Dijk during their time in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United and Celtic respectively.

‘Do you or Virgil remember this photo 6 years ago and who do you think won the ball there?’ he asked.

Robertson clearly felt there was only one winner and joked: ‘I won the ball, had him in my back pocket all game!!’

Earlier in the Q&A, Robertson was a little kinder about Van Dijk and named the Dutchman as the player he’s glad he doesn’t have to play against – anymore.

‘Virgil! He’d head all my crosses clear!’ the Scotland international answered.

John Barnes says the season must be finished in its entirety

Earlier this week, Liverpool legend John Barnes insisted his former club cannot be crowned English champions until the entire season is completed, regardless of how long that takes.

Asked whether Liverpool should be handed the title considering to their enormous lead at the top of the table, Barnes told Sky Sports: ‘If you’re going to give Liverpool the title who will then get relegated and promoted?

‘You can’t just say, “Liverpool get the title because we’re so far ahead” because then what happens to Leeds, West Brom and Fulham? And what happens to the three teams at the bottom of the Premier League?

‘Obviously safety is the most important thing, but I think the best thing to do is to allow this season to take place, however long it takes.

‘There’s no need to rush back. Now that the Euros has been postponed, even if you play one game a week from October, then the season goes on to January or February.

‘Then you can have a proper pre-season and kick-start the new season at the right time rather than be playing catch-up for years.’
