Antonio Conte has backed Chelsea legend Frank Lampard to become ‘one of the best managers in the world’.
Lampard returned to Stamford Bridge as manager last summer, having impressed in his first season in management at Championship club Derby County.
Chelsea had largely thrived under Lampard before the season was suspended, with the young and exciting squad climbing to fourth in the Premier League and reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Conte won three Serie A titles before joining Chelsea in 2016 and then led the Blues to the Premier League in his first season in charge.
Asked to assess Lampard’s debut season as Chelsea manager, Conte told Sky Sports: ‘I think he’s doing a really good job.
‘This is Frank’s second experience after Derby. To manage and be the coach of a top team is not easy.
‘But I think he has the skills and the ability to become one of the best managers in the world.
‘He has to continue to work in this way and I wish him the best for the future.’
