Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made a bizarre claim that the Chelsea fans that protested the club’s European Super League plans outside Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night were planted.

A significant number of supporters blocked the team bus’ entrance to Stamford Bridge in protest at the club’s plans to join five other Premier League clubs in becoming permanent members of the European Super League.

Performance Director and club legend Petr Cech had to remonstrate with supporters outside the ground and news arrived shortly after the protest that Chelsea had withdrawn from the plans to join the breakaway Champions League competition.

All six Premier League clubs have now withdrawn but neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona have pulled out.

Madrid president Perez was a major player in the talks to breakaway from the Champions League and he’s not giving up on the proposals, suggesting instead that they can be tweaked.

And the powerful Spaniard has shown he’s not going down without a fight by claiming that the numbers at the protest outside Stamford Bridge was vastly overstated and even more bizarrely, that the protestors were not Chelsea fans and were instead planted.

Speaking after Madrid’s 3-0 win against Cadiz in which the Spanish minnows wore t-shirts protesting against the European Super League plans, Perez said: Chelsea fans? They were 40 people outside Stamford Bridge… and if you want, I will tell you who took them there.

‘Who took Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge are the same people who put those anti-Super League shirts on Cadiz tonight.’

‘The Super League is not dead. It’s on stand-by and we’ll work on the project. All 12 founder clubs signed the same contract.’

The 14 Premier League clubs that were left out of the Super League plans are now considering a formal response to the Big Six’s plans.

UEFA said the ‘shame’ of the plans was punishment enough for the 12 teams and they plan to push ahead with new proposals for the Champions League.
