Chelsea have revived their interest in Declan Rice after manager Thomas Tuchel sanctioned a transfer move for the West Ham and England star.
Rice, 22, emerged as one of Frank Lampard’s top transfer targets while he was Chelsea boss.
Lampard’s sacking in January seemingly put an end to Chelsea’s pursuit but the Daily Telegraph say Tuchel is also an admirer of the versatile Hammers man.
Chelsea were not willing to meet West Ham’s £70million valuation of Rice last summer and his price-tag may now be closer to £100m following another impressive season in east London.
Rice in fact graduated through the Chelsea academy before being released at the age of 14, and is said to be keen on a return to Stamford Bridge, especially as his close friend Mason Mount is thriving at the club.
Tuchel would have seen little of Rice before replacing Lampard at the start of the year but the Telegraph say he has quickly become a fan of the England international and has recommended him to club chief Marina Granovskaia.
If Chelsea are once again priced out of a move for Rice, the club will look at Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Benfica’s Julian Weigl as cheaper alternatives.
