Manchester United hope to get the edge on rivals Chelsea and Manchester City by offering to compensate Harry Kane for a ‘loss of earnings’ with a huge signing-on fee to move to Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old has taken steps to leave Spurs in the last week by giving a revealing interview to Gary Neville, in which he expressed a desire to play Champions League football and spoke openly about the need to have a conversation with chairman Daniel Levy about his future.
Kane’s declaration has attracted Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, who would all be willing to break their transfer records to sign the England skipper.
However, with three years left on his deal, Kane may have to push even further to get out of north London by handing in an official transfer request.
By doing so, Kane would give up loyalty bonuses that were tied into his contract to make him the highest paid player at the club in 2018.
Kane would likely seek parity with David De Gea on around £350,000-a-week should he move to Old Trafford but the Times claim United would seek to compensate Kane even further by offering him a ‘huge’ signing-on fee.
That fee would cover the costs Kane would forego for handing in a transfer request, which would boost his chances of leaving Spurs this summer.
Spurs value Kane at an astronomical £150m, meaning any deal to sign the England captain would cost around £250m over the course of his expected five or six-year deal.
Levy is said to be furious with Kane’s decision to go public with his desire to speak to him about his Spurs future, with it abundantly clear now that the striker would prefer to leave the club this summer.
Kane signed a six-year deal with the club in 2018 and is midway through his deal with the club,
The striker, though, argues that he will be worth less in the coming years given his age and the length of his contract.
