Manchester United fans protesting against the club’s owners, the Glazer family, have broken through barriers outside Old Trafford and invaded the pitch ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.
Thousands of fans descended on the stadium ahead of kick-off to vent their feelings against the Glazers and managed to evade security to make their way inside Old Trafford, with the match against Liverpool now at risk of being delayed.
Disgruntled supporters were seen letting off flares and blocking the entrance to The Lowry, the team’s hotel in Manchester, earlier in the day.

They then gathered in large numbers outside Old Trafford before barriers were broken down and fans flooded into the stadium and onto the pitch, chanting against the club’s owners and letting off flares.
But the mob left the pitch as quickly as they had appeared and within minutes they had all exited the stadium, with ground staff quickly getting rid of any rubbish on the pitch.
According to Sky Sports, the Premier League are unconcerned by the breach of security and the match will still go ahead as planned at 4.30pm.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said of the protests: ‘It’s important that the fans’ views are listened to and that we communicate better.
‘My job is to focus on the football side and that we have the best possible team. As I’ve said before, I’ve been backed, I’ve had great support from the club and the owners and I’m sure I will get the backing again to go one step further.
‘But I’m so happy that all the clubs agreed that [the European Super League] shouldn’t be the way of moving forward. Then again, when the protests are on, it’s important that they go in a good fashion and that we keep it peaceful.’
