Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked his new teammate for ‘an incredible gesture’ that has handed the returning Manchester United hero the opportunity to reclaim his iconic No.7 shirt.
The 36-year-old wore the number synonymous with fellow club legends such as Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham with distinction over the course of his trophy-laden first spell at Old Trafford and will now do so again after United gained special dispensation from the Premier League.
Reacting to confirmation of the news, Ronaldo said: ‘I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi [Cavani] for this incredible gesture’
