Wes Brown has urged Manchester United to sign West Ham star Declan Rice this summer and responded to rumours Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Red Devils are one of a number of clubs who have expressed interest in signing England midfielder Rice, who West Ham value at almost £100m.

Rice has been one of the stars of the Premier League over the past two seasons, helping West Ham challenge for the Champions League places and progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The 23-year-old also played a huge role in England’s run to the Euro 2020 final last summer, playing in all seven of the Three Lions’ matches, including the final defeat to Italy.

Brown, who won five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues at Manchester United, told 888sport: ‘I love Declan Rice.

‘I look at him and he reminds me of an old-school player because he knows his job and position and knows what to do.

‘He works hard and he doesn’t need to be a tactical genius or do fancy tricks, he just knows his job and he does it very well at West Ham.

‘He just gets it and he would very definitely benefit Man United. A lot of people say he is not this or that or flamboyant. He doesn’t need to be.’

Brown, who made 363 appearances for the Red Devils, also says he expects club legend Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season.

Ronaldo signed a two-year contract when he returned to Manchester United last summer, but recent reports have claimed the Portugal legend could cut short his second spell with the club and leave in the summer.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo is a true professional but it doesn’t matter where he goes he’s going to get stick regardless,’ Brown added.

‘I’m happy he came back because he’s a great addition to the squad with his experience and his professionalism.

‘A lot of people look at how he works and how he is, away from the game, how he treats himself. He has won so many things and he’s a senior player in that team, so he will be one of those who speaks up.

‘I hope he’s still there next season. He saved us quite a lot when he first arrived, scoring some crucial goals in both the league and in Europe. I honestly do feel he will be there next season.’

Manchester United beat Leeds United 4-2 in a Premier League thriller at the weekend and now turn their attentions to the Champions League and a last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid, with the first leg taking place on Wednesday night.
