Real Madrid are considering a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, despite the Brazilian only moving to St James’ Park in January.

The 24-year-old arrived at Newcastle from Lyon at the start of the year and, after an inirial bedding in process, has started to shine on a regular basis as the Magpies climb the Premier League table.

The £40m signing has scored three goals from midfield in just six Premier League starts under Eddie Howe, also netting his first goal for Brazil last month.

The midfielder had already been catching the eye of big clubs thanks to his performances in Ligue 1 with Lyon, but his rapid adaptation to the Premier League has impressed even more potential suitors.

Spanish publication AS report that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Guimaraes as they look to add some youth to an ageing central midfield.

The likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro are all now 30 or over and manager Carlo Ancelotti wants a revamp.

19-year-old Eduardo Camavinga arrived last year, but Real are being linked with more midfield stars, including Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

Newcastle would have absoluely no intention of letting their Brazilian star leave, having only just signed him and hoping to build a far stronger squad in the summer.

Guimaraes is under contract until 2026 and having just been bought for around £40m, he would prove an extremely expensive signing for anyone hoping to pick him up this year.
