Odion Ighalo has revealed he instructed his agent to secure him a move to Manchester United when he discovered the Red Devils were interested in signing him in January.

With Marcus Rashford out with a serious back injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was determined to bolster his attacking options during the January transfer window and Ighalo emerged as a surprise target.

The Nigeria international had previously endured a mixed spell in the Premier League with Watford and was playing in China for Shanghai Shenhua.

But Ighalo enjoyed a bright start to his Manchester United career, scoring four goals in his first eight appearances before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Reflecting on the conversation he had with his agent before joining the Red Devils, Ighalo told journalist Juliet Bawuah: ‘It was the easiest decision I ever made in my life.

‘I had some offers. When my agent told me about Manchester United, I was waiting and waiting.

‘When Manchester United said we could do the deal, the other clubs started calling my agent saying they could give me whatever I wanted.

‘I told my agent I don’t care what anybody else can do, just make Manchester United happen. This is who I really want to play for.

‘Is it true Manchester United really want me? If they do then that’s where I’m going.

‘I don’t care what they’re offering, I don’t care about the pay cut, I just want to go there. Just make the deal happen.

‘I wanted to play for Manchester United because it was the team I supported as a child. If I have the opportunity to play, money is not going to stop me.

‘This is my dream. This is what I play for. Even at my age, I don’t want money to stand in my way.’

Ighalo was due to leave Manchester United on May 30 but the striker is keen to sign a permanent deal with the club he supported as a child.
