Manchester United remain confident of signing Jude Bellingham from Birmingham after pulling out all the stops to beat competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga club pipped United to the signing of Erling Haaland in January and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reluctant to lose out again in the race to acquire one of European football’s most highly-rated teenagers.

Bellingham, who doesn’t turn 17 until June, has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Birmingham this season and the likes of Chelsea are also in the running to sign him.

United gave the player a guided tour of their Carrington training complex last month and Bellingham also spent time with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bellingham was said to have been ‘blown away’ by the gesture and United hope the extra effort will pay dividends when the teenager makes a final decision on his future.

According to Sky Sports, Solskjaer would integrate Bellingham immediately into his first team squad and would not consider the possibility of sending him back on loan to Birmingham.

The Norwegian has already promoted the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams this season, both of whom have become regular first team players, while the likes of Angel Gomes and Taheeth Chong have featured prominently in the cup competitions.

United also remain interested in Dortmund’s England international winger Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

Solskjaer boasts an impressive record in the transfer market since succeeding Jose Mourinho with the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James all making promising starts to their Old Trafford career.

The arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January has also galvanised the team and the Portugal international hopes to see the club invest in more highly motivated and foreceful personalities in the future. He said recently:

‘I want people hungry for titles and everything. I feel this now in the group, everyone wants to win. For example, Juan Mata. He’s won, if not everything, then most things, and I feel on him he wants more,’ Fernandes said earlier this week.

‘He wants more. When you feel this from players like Juan who won the World Cup, the Euros, the Champions League – if I’m not mistaken – a lot of things you know. ‘When you feel he wants more, you want more also. It’s good for you.’
