Kai Havertz believes there are ‘not many’ squads better than Chelsea in Europe after his side advanced to the last-16 of the Champions League.

Havertz was involved in a 1-1 draw against Krasnodar in Chelsea’s final Group E game where a Jorginho penalty was enough to maintain their unbeaten record in this season’s competition.

There’s plenty of confidence around Stamford Bridge, with Frank Lampard’s side also third in the Premier League, and a sense that this team will only continue to improve.

Havertz is convinced they will continue to do so and after being part of a huge summer overhaul – where he joined the likes of Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Eduoard Mendy in arriving in west London – he feels there is serious strength in depth.

And the Germany international feels that very few sides in Europe can match the Blues – something he thinks is a ‘good sign for us’ – as they look to win a second Champions League title.

‘I think not many,’ Havertz responded when asked about those with better squads than Chelsea in Europe.

‘We have a lot of good players in our team but I think we all know that we have to improve a lot because we have new players, we have young players and the connection is getting better off the pitch and on the pitch.

‘I think you see on the pitch today and on the weekend that it is getting better.

‘We have a lot of talented players, I think that’s a good sign for us.’

After finishing top of Group E by picking up 14 of 18 points, Chelsea will avoid other sides who finished top of their respective groups.

There are still some huge teams they could yet face when Monday’s draw is made. Barcelona are definitely through as a second-placed side, while Real Madrid or Inter Milan could yet fill those spots.

The other sides confirmed as their potential opponents are Lazio and Porto.
