Jack Wilshere has made his Premier League top-four prediction for next season, backing the Manchester rivals to dominate and Liverpool to finish just fourth.

The 2021-22 Premier League campaign starts on Friday night with Championship play-off winners Brentford hosting Arsenal.

Last season, Manchester City stormed to their third title in four years, eventually finishing 12 points ahead of runners-up Manchester United, 17 points ahead of 2020 champions Liverpool and 19 points clear of Champions League winners Chelsea.

Wilshere believes City’s dominance is set to continue next season, with Pep Guardiola’s side ‘just too good’ to slip up in their title defence.

The former England midfielder expects Man United to enjoy another promising campaign, however, and reckons Chelsea and Liverpool will occupy the final two top-four spots ahead of Arsenal and Leicester City.

Revealing his top-four prediction on talkSPORT, Wilshere said: ‘Manchester City will win it. I would prefer Man United to win it but I think they come second. Chelsea third, Liverpool fourth, Arsenal fifth and Leicester sixth.

‘I played against Man City so many times and it’s awful, it’s horrible. You can’t get the ball off them. Pep just gets them playing these little passes. If they get Harry Kane as well it’s over before we even start.

‘Liverpool will have a better season than last year because [Virgil] van Dijk is back, but I just think Man City are just too good.

‘[Manchester United] tried with [Jose] Mourinho to bring in that experienced manager who just wants to win, but he didn’t win. I think Solskjaer has done well. But they have to win a trophy next season.’

On the opening weekend of the new season, defending champions Man City travel to Tottenham, Man United host Leeds United, Chelsea face Crystal Palace and Liverpool visit Norwich City.
