Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, according to reports in Spain.
The Denmark international is in the final few months of his contract with the Champions League holders and will be available on a free transfer this summer.
Christensen is yet to agree a new deal with Chelsea and the defender admits he’s in a ‘difficult situation’ at Stamford Bridge.
According to Spanish radio station COPE, Barcelona’s director of football, Mateu Alemany, has travelled to London in order to finalise a deal for Christensen.
The report claims that the centre-back has ‘no intention’ of signing a new contract with Chelsea, which puts Barcelona in the driving seat to complete a move at the end of the season.
It’s also understood that Barcelona have made an approach to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Speaking about his contract situation last week, Christensen said: ‘Things can still be done. Being part of a winning team is all that I want to be as a football player.
‘It’s hard because all the talks between the club and my guys, I try to keep it away because I want to focus and it’s not changed for me.
‘I go on the pitch every day not really thinking about it. I leave that to the club and my guys, and I can focus on playing football.
‘I just focus on winning, really. It’s a difficult situation.’
