Mauricio Pochettino has turned down a string of clubs while he has been out of work, having now finally agreed a return to management with Chelsea.

The former Tottenham boss has been without a club since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in July last year, waiting for the ideal opportunity to return to the dugout.

While we still await confirmation, it is reported that the Argentine has agreed to take over as Chelsea manager at the end of the season, returning to London and the Premier League for the first time since leaving Spurs in 2019.

It is far from the first job the 51-year-old has been offered since leaving PSG, with the BBC listing eight clubs who showed interest in appointing Pochettino over the last year.

Guillen Balague reported that Benfica, Athletic Bilbao, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Sevilla, Villarreal, Nice and Leeds United all made contact over the possibility of appointing Pochettino.

However, he is keen to challenge for titles and was waiting for the right opportunity which will give him to compete at the highest level.

Tottenham have been linked with bringing their former boss back, but never made contact with him.

The report also states that he would have been keen for a move to Manchester United with talks held between the two parties in the past and he was disappointed not to get the gig at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have got their man now, though, with The Athletic reporting that terms have at last been agreed and the 51-year-old will bring his full backroom team with him to Stamford Bridge.

Long-serving assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D’Agostino, as well as goalkeeper coach Toni Jimenez and sport scientist son Sebastiano Pochettino, will all make the move to west London.

That quintet have been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in July last year and also worked together at Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham.
