Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United’s best move is to sell Paul Pogba and replace him with a player who wants to be at Old Trafford, according to reports.
Pogba’s future with United has been called into question once again after his agent, Mino Raiola, claimed the midfielder is unhappy at Old Trafford and has pushed for the midfielder to leave.
‘There’s no point beating about the bush. It’s better to speak out clearly, look forward and avoid wasting time to find culprits,’ Raiola told Tuttosport.
‘Paul is unhappy at Manchester United, he can’t manage to express himself like he wants to and like people expect him to.
‘He needs to change team, he needs a change of scenery. He has a contract that will expire in a year and a half, in the summer of 2022, but the best solution for all parties is a transfer in the next window.
‘Otherwise the Old Trafford club, which I have a great relationship with, knows well that they would risk losing him on a free transfer, given that at the moment it’s not the player’s intention to extend the contract.’
Real Madrid have previously expressed an interest in signing Pogba and Zinedine Zidane is a huge admirer, but the Spanish club are unwilling to match United’s £150 million valuation.
But according to The Athletic, Solskjaer thinks that United should approve a deal for Pogba as he wants players in his squad who are committed to the club.
The report also claims that there is ‘deep frustration, bordering on anger’ from people at United over the timing of Raiola’s comments, which came on the eve of the club’s crucial Champions League clash against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
United supporters have also been angered by Raiola’s comments and Solskjaer is now under pressure to drop Pogba from the team.
However, the World Cup winner made a positive impact in the second half of United’s clash with West Ham on Saturday as he scored the equaliser in the 3-1 victory.
Pogba’s current contract with United expires in 2022 after they triggered a one-year extension in October.
