Real Madrid have confirmed that Eden Hazard and Casemiro have tested positive for Covid-19.
Every other member of Madrid’s playing and coaching staff returned negative tests which were carried out on Friday morning
Both Hazard and Casemiro started in the side’s 3-2 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday evening but will now have to self-isolate, meaning they will play no part against Valencia this weekend.
Hazard will also have to miss Belgium’s matches with Switzerland, England and Denmark, while Brazil will be without Casemiro for their World Cup qualifiers versus Venezuela and Uruguay.
A statement on Madrid’s website on Saturday morning said: ‘Real Madrid CF announces that our players Casemiro and Hazard have given positive results in the Covid-19 tests carried out on Friday morning.
‘All the other players and the coaching staff of the first team, as well as all club employees who work directly with them, gave negative results in that same test carried out yesterday.
‘Likewise, it is confirmed again that all, except for Casemiro and Hazard, have given negative results in the antigen tests carried out this morning.’
It’s been setback after setback for Hazard since his move from Chelsea to the Bernabeu in June 2019.
Hamstring, foot, ankle and muscle injuries have hampered Hazard’s progress in the Spanish capital but it appeared the forward had turned a corner with his first goal since November in Madrid’s 4-1 win over Huesca.
