Despite Arsenal’s current malaise and the controversy surrounding Granit Xhaka, there is no shortage of passion at the club with fans praising Alexandre Lacazette’s reaction to the team’s disallowed goal on Sunday.
The Gunners were mystified to see Sokratis’ effort ruled out late on against Crystal Palace, with VAR judging that Calum Chambers had tripped Luka Milivojevic just before a goal that would have seen Arsenal claim a 3-2 victory.
While VAR has been criticised for not allowing fans and players to enjoy the moment, Lacazette certainly had no problems letting go after Sokratis’ strike.
Watch Lacazette’s celebration from 9:48 onwards…
While the rest of the squad chased after the Greek centre-back to celebrate with him, Lacazette grabbed the ball out of the net and booted it into the stands.
He then roared with delight at the home fans and started shadow boxing in an explosion of passion, fist-pumping to the crowd – though his joy was short-lived when VAR eventually intervened.
Despite the disappointment of not winning – and the subsequent fallout of Xhaka telling supporters to ‘f*** off’ – Arsenal fans were full of praise for Lacazette showing so much passion for the club.
With calls for Xhaka to be stripped of the captaincy, the Frenchman might even have made a case of his own for why he should wear the armband…

And please tell me why we have Granit fucking Xhaka as our captain, there is no leadership in him, no passion, just mad disrespect. I honestly feel sorry for players like Lacazette being surrounded by players like him. https://t.co/tpiHQt84FP

I don’t understand why players think Xhaka is a leader on the pitch?! He makes a lot of mistakes and of course his performance on Sunday wasn’t the worst from all the others but he shouldn’t be the captain of Arsenal FC. Give it to Laca or even Bellerin #arsenal #xhaka #lacazette
