Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has backed compatriot Anthony Martial to reproduce his impressive form of last season at Manchester United.
The Frenchman was handed the No.9 role at Old Trafford after the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer.
Martial netted 17 Premier League goals as United secured a third-placed finish, which was the forward’s highest tally since joining the club in 2015.
The new campaign hasn’t started as well as he would’ve hoped, without a goal in three league games and getting sent off in the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Martial will also faced increased competition for his spot from deadline-day signing Edinson Cavani, who is PSG’s all-time top goalscorer having found the back of the net 200 times.
However, speaking ahead of United’s clash against the French giants in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Mbappe predicted a ‘big’ season for his international team-mate.
‘He’s a player I have a great understanding with,’ Mbappe told the Mirror. ‘Playing with somebody as talented as Anthony makes your job easier.
‘I’m sure he’ll have another big season with Manchester United and I look forward to playing with him for the national team again.
‘He’s a very good friend but also a player that I connect very well with.’
