Trent Alexander-Arnold has written his name into the Guinness World Record book for providing more assists than any defender in a Premier League season.
The Liverpool right-back laid on 12 goals for his team-mates over the 2018-19 Premier League season, more than any other defender in the history of the league.
With one to his name before last season and another two this campaign already, the England international has 15 Premier League assists at the age of 21.
The full-back puts a huge amount of emphasis on his attacking abilities and great pride in being able to provide goals for his team-mates, so is delighted to be recognised for his achievement.
‘It’s an honour. I’ve always wanted to go forward and help the team to create as many chances as possible,’ said Alexander-Arnold.
‘It’s obviously down to the lads to put the ball into the back of the net, because football is a team game and without them, the manager and all the support in the background, this record wouldn’t be possible.
‘I always used to read [the Guinness World Records book] as a kid because they’re fun to read, to see the different records and what people are up to all around the world.
‘It’s an unbelievably proud moment for me and all of my family – and hopefully something that will stand for a few years.’
Alexander-Arnold is in constant competition with Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson to see who can provide the most assists for their side.
The Scot fell just short of his fellow Reds defender last season, ending on 11, and although he has notched up 22 in the Premier League over his career, Alexander-Arnold was glad to have pipped him last season.
‘He probably thought he had the competition wrapped up!’ Alexander-Arnold said.
‘Near the end of the season we both hit really good form, we were both getting lots of assists and it was good to help the team in those games that we needed to win.’
