Arsenal have confirmed Per Mertesacker will join Freddie Ljungberg’s coaching staff after the Swede was appointed interim manager following the sacking of Unai Emery.
The 35-year-old, who won three FA Cups with the north London club as a player, retired at the end of the 2017/18 season and has been working as the club’s academy director.
Mertesacker will now take his place in the dugout on Sunday when Arsenal travel to Norwich in what will represent the first game of Ljungberg’s tenure.
