Rio Ferdinand criticised the role of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the build-up to Bournemouth’s opening goal against Manchester United.
A largely incident free first period was brought to life on the brink of half time when Josh King controlled Adam Smith’s dinked cross on the edge of the six-yard box, flicked the ball over Wan-Bissaka and slammed the ball past David de Gea with an emphatic volley.
The former Crystal Palace right-back was sucked into a central position with Harry Maguire having been drawn towards the ball, but Ferdinand felt the 21-year-old could have handled the situation better had he shown more patience.
He told BT Sport: ‘He’s got to wait, he’s got to be patient.
That is sublime 👏👏👏#BOUMUN

‘In that area you’ve got to slow the situation down in your own mind, you haven’t got to rush into anything.
‘The forward has got his back to goal – what move is he going to make? Once he makes a move you react and try to shut down the shot.
‘What he did was go to have a nibble on one side, that made Josh King’s mind up.
‘He rolled him, was strong enough to hold him off, and he’s put it away with a comfortable finish.
‘It’s a great bit of skill from Josh King, you’ve got to appreciate that.’
